Some of you may remember a little less than a year ago i posted
about the problems i was having with my taillight/breaklight. every
solution we came up with didn't work. Well today i took my blast to
a local bike shop to see if they could fix it. The problem ended up
being that there is a black rubber piece that connects the ground
t.l. and b.l. wires to the housing, within that rubber the wires
were cut. The only solution (temporary fix) was to cut off the
rubber and connect these little connectors they had to the wires and
to the housing. well the taillight is temporarly fixed but now i
have to buy a whole fuse assembly. HERES THE PROBLEM. now my
speedometer isn't working? everything above might not be important
but i figured the speedo failure might be due to that. The high beam
and turn signal indicator light come on, but my needle doesn't move,
the digital mileage doesn't come on, nuetral and oil pressure
indicaters don't work i'm hoping it is just something disconnected.
anyone know what to do? if its something disconnected then i need to
know where to look. the rubber we cut has anything to do with it
because it just went to the tail light? some how the 2 wires that
connect to the turn signal were disconnected but i just plugged them
back in. i took off the flyscreen to plug the left turnsignal in but
thats all i did. When i rode to the shop the speedometer worked when
i rode back it didn't

Arg! Wow - that sucks - sounds like the speedo itself - if everything worked but the speedo function itself, I would say the sensor, however that is not the case. However, before I made that something to replace - I would replace the bad fuses or fusebox and see if that fixes it - it may, but it needs to be done anyway - something like that could start a whole bunch of bad electrical gremlins. Then with that done and your speedo still isn't right, then it would be replacement time, and if your doing that you might as well replace the sensor as well (cheap part) and that way your garenteed good working order resumed. I'm sure I probably missed something obvious and someone will speak up, but thats what I would look at doing/have done - lol

i took off the seat and tried switching a fuse (all of them but just one at a time) with the spare ones but got nothing.i didn't mess with the diodes.what puzzles me is that those two indicator lights work but the other 2 don't and the 2 that work both from the left control switch.

I had the sensor go first, then fixed it then about a month later the speedo went - replaced under warrentee - thats why I sugest such - not a common occurence, but it can happen.

see i don't have a warrenty anymore. can you buy the warranty after its already expired because it would probablt be cheaper that a sensor and a speedo

Sensors like 8 bucks, and speedo was 75 - not that expensive, and from the book looks easy enough - the sensor was easy, and the speedo looks almost as easy - check the manual - none of this is too much or too hard. Just take your time and everything should be fine. Good luck!

Add a zero to the price of that speedo sensor, more like $75.

This is mostly for Ezblast. I got the tail light and speedo fixed. I took it to a old bike shop (he mostly has BSA and Nortons and a few Triumphs the old ones no the new ones) but anyway he did the same thing i did about 6 times. He unplugged the wiring harness from the tailight under the seat and plugged it back up and it worked. unplugged the speedometer and plugged it back up and it worked. The bike kept recording the mileage apperently just wasn't showing up. Thanks for all the help. Now if a speedometer goes out i will be ready.

Ez,
Where'd you look up the part number for that speed sensor? I've looked at a Blast manual and I didn't see a parts list. That Chicago Harley link looks really helpful if I had a parts list. Thanks!

You want a Buell Blast Parts manual - it has exploded diagrams with all the part numbers - you could probably order one of those from them as well, or your own Buell dealer - about 20 bucks and worth every penny, and its right much more often than the Manual is - lol

Ok, my speedo sensor went out tonight. I checked all fusses and conections and they all appear to be fine, and pulled the sensor out and cleaned it off. Anything else i should check before ordering a new one?

One question - did the whole gauge quite inc lights, etc. - or just the speedo part" If just the speedo part then the sensor, otherwise both need replacing - ugh - I know.

Looks like they took a bicycle speedometer and crossed it with a G-Tech.

Probably does what they say it will. I'm skeptical of its real accuracy however.

Mutt2jeff... very common failure. Make sure you get the updated replacement part, the old style sensor will just pop again. Lots of info in the knowledge vault.

Yup... as far as I know... 74402-95B (part revised 04/11/2004).

If all the have is the older ones, they can be made to work with some extra work, but they should be closer to $50 retail, and you should probably deserve a further discount on top of that.

Hey - if you can get an HD one to work - tell us how! - lol - the Westach unit is especially made for singles - thats why its as pricey as it is - HD tachs can be gotten cheaper - if you can make one of those built for a twin to work inexpensively on a single and pass that info on...you know?;0)

True though - if your running the screaming eagle ignition - you could run it twin mode as discussed earlier and add either a manual choke - or keep it gently reved for a bit till she's warmed up - your loosing your auto choke - that way, but no biggie at that point - with 600cc - at least HSR42 - not counting labor - a few upgraded head parts do wonders for the bike plus you can use a really nice stock Buell cam profile from the XB line in the SE edition - it will add power, but since its stock in an XB shouldn't be too harsh for an upgraded upper valve train - seats, springs, guides - mostly, and while they are in there tell them to clean it up a bit - not like its got to be balanced/matched;0) ported for CFM. I wished I knew the joys of winter wrenching - too busy riding - sounds like some fun though - Enjoy!

Let us know if that tach works out.
Are you just going 600cc or are you going 'all the way'!
