First qualify is in the books. Geoff was second, just .365 sec behind Hayes

http://www.amaproracing.com/rr/events/results.cfm? year=2012&eid=2012011230

This what I like to see, steady improvement.

worse, Speed's BJ [ha!] coverage is vastly inferior to Velocity's seemingly endless Mecum auction shows.....

Why do they have two qualifying sessions in ama? Do they take the best combined time to set the field or what?

Not a good Q2 session for the EBR team, they were the only 2 riders not to improve time from Q1, Geoff May ended 5th,and Danny Eslick 10th overall. Geoff May looks like he has a good race pace mid 1;26's, fastest besides Hayes ,but Danny Eslick's race pace looks like high 1:27's ,and he might be lucky to finish in the top 10 . Danny Eslick was p3 after 1st practice, but has gone backwards since, looks like his team went the wrong way with the setup on his bike .

Agreed Peter (Amafan,) but hoping their better handling and mid rpm torque out of the turns will benefit them. It is Barber and handling plays an important part but they will have to start by playing catchup. Wishing all the team a great two races.

Geoff's 4th got a li'l mention from AMA Pro:

".....Team Amsoil/Hero EBR's Geoff May chased him [Suzuki's Blake Young] down from around three seconds back to close to within a second in the contest's late stages after the Yosh pilot was slowed considerably by a lapped rider. The Yoshimura Suzuki hero summoned up some late strength to just hold the Georgian [May] off and claim the final spot on the podium....."

"Cycle News" commented,

".....Team Amsoil/Hero's Geoff May (EBR) finished fourth after closing to less than a second on Young. He'd spent most of the race just out of the grasp of National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Roger Lee Hayden, who fell well behind May at the end in fifth....."

"Cycle News" is brief with their recognition of Geoff's second 4th:

".....Team Amsoil/Hero's Geoff May got past both Jordan Suzukis to take fourth. He passed Ben Bostrom on the 13th lap having earlier passed Roger Lee Hayden....."

AMA Pro is more generous:

".....Team Amsoil/Hero EBR's Geoff May continued his mid-season run of impressive performances, working his way past Michael Jordan Motorsports teammates Ben Bostrom (Jordan Suzuki) and Roger Hayden (National Guard Jordan Suzuki) on successive laps and then breaking away to claim a clear fourth.....

Go Geoff! What happened to Danny? Did he crash? Mechanical failure?

looks like it was a mechanical failure,he pitted right after one of his splits was 10 seconds slower then it was on the previous lap . He was alot faster then he was yesterday to,and his fastest lap of the race was faster the Geoff's fastest lap of the race . The good news is Geoff May came back after a slow start in the race to finish 4th again, and is 4th in points only behind Josh Hayes, Blake Young, and Josh Herrin .

Amafan sez,
".....May came back after a slow start in the race to finish 4th again, and is 4th in points only behind Josh Hayes, Blake Young, and Josh Herrin ......"

which is exactly where he belongs -
I'd say the math & the perceptions line up nicely, in that he's generally been behind the 2 Yamahas & Blake, mixing it up with the 2 Jordans & Clark's Suzuki

Erik Buell Racing is likewise the 3rd-placed manufacturer right now, in my mind - if not the math - EBR's more impressive so far than Kawasaki [& ever-absent Honda.....] & way ahead of those lovely, but stumbling KTMs

I was in the pits after the race. Heard that they thought Danny dropped an exhaust valve. May was absolutely flying. If the top three didn't have the magic box(i,e, traction control) I think it would have been a different race. May's bike seemed to be motoring about as good as anyone in the straights and was down on power only a little bit compared to team Monster. Great to see Walt Sipp. He rode his heart out as usual just didn't have the equipment to get it done. Paul James did a great job and he's always good to talk to in person. Very personable. All the Buell guys are great. Danny and Geoff both signed a EBR t-shirt for my 12 year old AFTER the race as they were leaving. Great guys. GO TEAM EBR!

Who (well, besides us) would have thought EBR would be 4th over the season right now? Fantastic results.

It was an incredible day and the information coming in from Danny's bike is fabulously valuable.

Danny did indeed loose a valve and I suspect (call it a wild guess) that we are seeing how various riding characteristics impact the motor. All solvable.

This is a perfect example of how racing evolves the product. Elves were on it before the sunset over Barber . . Great weekend.
