Figured I'd get this going to get the Moto2 discussions out of the main MotoGP thread. We Yanks even have someone to cheer on in Moto2: Kenny Noyes. I'll get to witness this series for the first time this August in Indianapolis. It's an interesting concept and one I WISH Erik Buell Racing had the financing to participate. Erik's strength has always been chassis design, and I would LOVE to see his chassis principles put up against the rest of the world on an even basis. Since Moto2 bikes all run the same engine, the chassis (and rider) are the determining factors in who wins. | ||

I think Jason DiSalvo has started looking for a Moto2 ride since losing his WSS Triumph gig, so maybe you'll have 3 to cheer at Indy  Kev Coghlan's wild card ride at Silverstone was financed by an American syndicate apparently so he may also get the other wild card at Indy, making 2 Brits in the series as well, which would be nice (Message edited by trojan on June 22, 2010) | ||

I think Jason DiSalvo has started looking for a Moto2 ride since losing his WSS Triumph gig, so maybe you'll have 3 to cheer at Indy NOt sure what bonehead chose DiSalvo to ride the Triumph, but they came to their senses when he was fired. I figure he will come crawling back to the AMA next year or fill in for a injured rider later this season. | ||

this whole racers-with-no-rides situation sucks, for them & for us I know Jamie Hacking's old as dirt [relatively], but I'd give him a ride before JDS & that's off the top o'my head, with no effort to name others I'd also pick before JDS | ||

Of all the guys in the AMA who would JUMP at going to WSS (and it's literally ALL of them I am sure), WHY Disalvo? And WHY Hayden to WSBK? He's never ridden a Superbike well at all. There was a LOT of involvement/investment from Infront Motorsports (the organisers of WSS/WSB)to get more American riders into the series this year after Ben Spies left. They actually paid the teams to take both DiSalvo and Hayden (even though it meant the Triumph team having to field another bike that they hadn't planned to do) and it was all done very last minute. If they had more time to cherry pick different riders they probably would have done, and if Hayden had taken the time to look at the team he was signing for he may not have picked up that particular poison chalice either. DiSalvo unfortunately made some harsh comments about his team when he left that will probably mean he has burned his boats as far as getting another decent WSS/WSB ride is concerned, but Hayden has stuck to his task all year and probably earned a few friends inthe paddock for future years how much $$ do you estimate it takes to field a Moto2 wild-card rider for 1 race? I've heard all sorts of figures bandied about, but it is difficult to put a figure on wild card entries because teams normally lease engines for a whole year. The cost of buying a complete rolling chassis from FTR would is GBP75,000 (US$110,000 approx) and then whatever Honda want to hire an engine for one race. | ||

A rolling chassis for over $100K?!?! Plus all the other expenses. I thought they created the Moto2 class for affordability reasons. That figure really surprises me. | ||

$100,000+ doesn't surprise me the forks most of these bikes are running are what 15,000. Aluminum beam frames on a low production item have to be hideously expensive. If you add composites to the mix it will climb out of site. The only way a cheap low production frame can be made is welded together out of steel tubing. | ||

Plus all the other expenses. I thought they created the Moto2 class for affordability reasons. Compared to the costs involved in MotoGP and even the old 250GP class the Moto2 class isn't just 'relatively cheap' but an absolute bargain! Teams in this series have budgets far lower than even some leading national level superbike teams, and you have to remember that they pay no maintenance or rebuild costs on engines and most of the leading chassis manufacturers are offering ongoing support as part of the package. I heard rumours of the cost of leasing a factory spec Aprilia 250 last year at close to €1,000,000 so Moto2 is real bargain basement stuff really | ||

This is exactly why Moto2 came about really (at the behest of Honda initially). 250GP had become a very expensive one make championship with the exception of a few ageing Hondas, and to be in with a chance you had to lease the best kit direct from Aprilia, who could (and did) name their own price. The irony was that Honda pushed for years to get rid of the stroker 250's, and in the year they achieved it a Honda actually won the 250 championship against all odds! 125GP is going the same way now and Aprilia supply almost all the top teams (Derbi and Lambretta are just rebadged Aprilias), so again Honda is at the forefront of the move to replace them with a 4 stroke championship in 2012. | ||

America, watch out for Kenny Noyes this weekend, he should finish in the top 10 at least. Pons Kalex replaced the hurt Axel Pons by Carmelo Morales, the Superstock 600/1000 Champion. He is in the spanish Moto 2 Championship running second on a Suter Chassis. | ||

I think Kev Coghlan has another wild card ride this weekend too. He has won Spanish Moto2 races this year on his FTR and is currently 2nd in the CEV championship I think, so could go well at Catalunya This will be the first GP that I will miss this year screened live as I am out all day Sunday  It promises to be the best of the year though, so I shall have to record it and avoid forums until I get to watch it! | ||
