Nice to see there will be some Buell FX racing this year. I hope there was some effort in the off season to make the bikes more reliable.

Wow! That's one great paint job! I'd love to see that on the SpeedTV FX coverage at VIR.

Bike looks fantastic! Good luck this upcomming year in whatever class you compete. It's also the first time I have seen an XBRR with the "full" front fender in place. I think it looks great and helps further streamline the bike.

smoke just so you know it does say buell on the top side of the air box, and you should be able to see it just fine when the beast is cranked over in any turn very clear. i really thought the paint job i laid on it spoke clearly on who we are and what we represent

Ant,
Great looking paint scheme. I wouldn't worry about having to have Buell written all over it, as there will be no mistaking what it is.

More positive news! Thanks for adding to it Michelle, Mutant-man and JQ!

Go Mutant/Liberty!

Go Brian Bemisderfer/Buell of Frederick!

Matt,
The XBRR was legally raced in ASRA, CCS and other events last year. I think you are confusing the CCS Thunderbike ruling for 2007 with what happened last year and also with ASRA, which to my knowledge has not disqualified the XBRR from its thunderbike class, though it would seem a fair thing to do. In club racing, the XBRR seems to belong most fairlywith the Supertwins and the various Superbike and GP classes.

The XBRR for instance won the solo challenge in the ASRA national at Road America, this racing against IL4 literbikes.

I guess I took Mr. Buell at his word when he stated as per your own quote of him from RRW that

quote:

The entry of four independent teams in the Daytona 200 brings to fruition the original goal of the Buell XBRR program: To make affordable bikes for privateers who want to compete in the prestigious AMA Formula Extreme class and other pro-level road racing classes.

I'm not seeing the hype from the factory that some are asserting existed. All the bigtime XBRR hype I've seen has been from us Buell enthusiasts. What would you have had Erik say to RRW other than what he did?

I think some folks may misinterpret a positive enthusiastic attitude with marketing hype.

It really sucks that you won't be able to campaign your Buell this year in the British series. I'm gonna miss your wonderful accounts of the events. Let's get you sponsored up for '08! Please exploit the board for that as you please. No harm nor foul in any BadWeB sponsor soliciting support for their racing effort(s) here. For instance, how much to get my name on the bike in say a little 2"x1/2" area? How much for a bigger and/or more prominently displayed sponsor tag? : )

Ditto for all you other XBRR racers running for BadWeB sponsors.

Hi Blake,
Thanks for your support : )

There were quite a lot of factors involved in the decision not to race this year in addition to the sponsorship issues. One of the main ones was that I was running the whole shebang, working on and transporting the bike, and setting up/running the whole Thunderbike series etc, which took a lot of time away from home and the business. I did have some volunteer help prepping the bike at some of the meetings, and that was a great help and much appreciated, but otherwise it was a one man operation and this was extremely tying and tiring over the course of the year. Every meeting was over 300 miles away (nothing to you Americans I know, but then you don't have our terrible road network either) and took me away from the business for 3-4 days each time effectively.
If we had been in a strong position sponsor wise then it would have been worth the effort, but not to have to plough more money into it with no support like we did last year.

In 2003 we got a lot of support from Buell (US) and we are very grateful for the help that we received. In 2006 we got no help at all from either Buell UK (because we are not a franchised dealer) or from the factory. That may be because I had been quite outspoken on here regarding certain issues and may have upset some people, and if that is the case then maybe I only have myself to blame. I do though believe in telling it like I see it and that is just the way I am.

Our rider, Phil Read, has now reluctantly signed for another team for this season and will be riding the Alto Laverda in the uK Thunderbike series. We shared paddock space with Alto last year and will continue to support them and Phil this season as much as we can. We would not want to run another new rider on the bike after having Phil's experience and skills last year. Phil was very keen to run the Buell again this year and he also did a lot of groundwork to attract sponsors (He was a marketing exectutive for Performance bikes magazine and Motor Cycle news, so had lots of contacts), but even he, with his famous name and undoubted ability and experience, was unable to come up with anything.

I am very disillusioned with the attitude of Buell UK to racing in general and us in particular, and that has been another factor in deciding not to race in 2007.
If I were to return to racing at a later date I would have to seriously consider which bike to use and it would sadly probably not be another Buell. This is simply because the cost of running a Buell here is so much higher than running other bikes that are as competitive. We were also offered some serious support from a couple of other manufacturers (even though we had no history with them) that would have to be considered if we were to go for it again.

I believe that Buell UK have missed a marvelllous opportunity to show race fans in the UK just what the XB is capable of, and to show that Buell can be associated with sports bikes after all. We got a huge amount of attention in the paddock last year from spectators and other competitors, plus more than our fair share of press attention to boot.

This year there will be no Buells in UK Thunderbike racing, a series that is dominated by XB's in the USA, which I find very sad : (

I will follow the progress of the XB teams in the USA with a lot of interest andmore than a little jealosy though ;)
