The 2007 season is rapidly approaching with the Dunlop tire test coming up in December (yes Blake I know that Buell uses Pirelli's). Has anything been decided regarding Buell's plans for the upcomming Formula Xtreme season? Team(s)? Rider(s)? Factory effort or Dealer effort?

That's a good question JScott...

Also... What are we doing with our contingency fund?

I say we make it a CCS contingency paid by BadWeb to CCS racers in the '07 season until it's gone (because I want (might need) some of it ;)).

There are some teams with RR bikes out there but the only ones I've heard of are Club teams. CCS, ASRA, WERA, CMRA, WSMC - maybe one for MotoST.

I haven't heard any announcements of teams committing to AMA - but March is still a ways away...

From all indications Buell will be back in FX next year...

"...we'll be back next year"

http://www.buell.com/en_us/mania/racing/racingnews detail.asp?news_id=1065

Nothing has been made official, but foreign press rumblings are that McWilliams will be riding the Ilmor X3 MotoGP bike next year. *LATE BREAKING NEWS: Chaz Davies will be testing the Ilmor today with McWilliams, Pitt, and McCoy.

Crevier is still an unknown for next year.

Lot's of questions still remain.

I have a feeling that the lack of any commitments at this late juncture means that Buell is looking for money. Does this mean that when all other FX race teams are testing and re-testing with their teams well established, that Buell is apparently still trying to figure out if they can even go racing, much less who is going to ride? Is this what they meant when they said, "I'll be baaak"? This doesn't seem to be the SOP necessary for success. Is this deja vu all over again?

Yeah, yeah, I know, the naysayer has opened his big mouth again!

Jeremy just broke his shoulder and leg, and may lose a finger after a crash on the Ilmor. It's not good news.

That is sad news, but thanks for sharing it with us Anon.

Jeremy's luck is sure to change for the better soon. It seems inexplicable that such an incredibly intelligent, professional, thoughtful, and determined rider should suffer so many setbacks over the course of one year.

I hope he is able to recover in time for the 2007 season and that Ilmor sticks by him whatever course he chooses.

No factory effort. What dealers will do is unknown, but don't expect much. Running against well sorted factory and factory supported import teams will be tough when the bikes are still so new. This will probably be a year of teams running mostly ASRA/CCS/WSMC/CMRA, etc. to learn the bikes. Mutation probably stated it best for the dealer teams.

Anonymous (if you are one of the reliable Anon's), Thanks for your candid and honest answer.

"No factory effort."

This is very unfortunate for Buell fans as well as race fans in general. While FX certainly has the makings of being the premiere AMA class (no doubt with the rules input from the likes of Erik himself), it's the very lack of factory support from Buell, Ducati, BMW, Triumph, etc. that will keep it overlooked and perhaps dropped in the future. I will remind you that with the absence of Yamaha for 2007, fans will likely be subjected to the same fate with Hayes/Gobert as we were with DuHamel/Zemke in the past. Do race fans really need another 600cc 4 cylinder class? Well folks that's what we got.

"What dealers will do is unknown, but don't expect much."

Personally, this is the response that was most needed. Last year with the fanfare leading up to Daytona (We're Back!!!) I certainly did expect alot and certainly was let down.

"Running against well sorted factory and factory supported import teams will be tough when the bikes are still so new."

How can one expect to become a well sorted team when there is no cohesive effort to build further upon last years learning season?

Again thanks for the info, while I am certainly disappointed as a Buell fan and race fan, I would have been furious to find out in March that there would be no organized effort.

Well guys let's root for the guys trying in ASRA/CCS/WSMC/CMRA, etc. Maybe we can get lucky and that fabled Ducati team might decide to challenge the Erion boys. Triumph, maybe you guys can capitalize on Buells absence. I though the XBRR was designed to the edge of the rulebook specifically for FX? I doubt that the AMA will go out of their way again.

As stated elsewhere here.. by me.. I have it from a VERY reliable source.. BMW has a Formula Extreme bike in the works and hopes to have it for the '07 season. I believe they also have at least one rider chosen to pilot the beast.. There may be another in the wings.

Last Rumint said Ducati was fiddling with the idea of an FX legal machine. Although looking at the current lineup, I don't see that bike coming from them.

Triumph has of course remained quite silent about their intentions (now that the rules allow them to run) it would be great if they could get at least one machine in to start the 'shake up'..

The sad part about all this, is that Buell started this revolution in FX. Taking them at their word and building a bike aimed at the class. Yes, a lot of people screamed and yelled about it, but the bike ran. If it vanishes now, all it says is 'They were right...' I wish to God there was some way a national level effort could be brought to bear. Perhaps we cold find a way to get some of the BIG dealers here to TEAM UP! Get a rider.. I know it won't be a current top name.. But (now pay attention to this)

WE DON'T CARE!

We, the fans will root and pull and support the team. Instead of trying to get a group of small dealers to go up against factory teams.. Let's put together a 'team' and start taking names!
Doesn't Rossmeyer sell Buells? I'll bet he could team with Deeley and Warrs and Liberty and Hoban Bros.. and hell, let's get Trojan Horse involved and invite anyone that's a Buell team to pony up.. .. (you do see what I'm getting at).. We don't need twenty frickin' teams each trying to race one race and afterwards, pray they can afford to buy a pizza for the drive home.. What is wrong with these people? Do they not see that being part of this effort could be momentous!? Don't rely on a single dealer to foot the entire bill and do it all for them.. Deeley and Warrs came on pretty strong last year, they need help to make it a full season. They can do it.. if our larger US dealers would just stop trying to sell chrome seat covers to Buell owners and think about what good it would do for future sales to make the run..

Damn...

I'm sorry.. I just realized, Rant Off.. Am I the only person in the world that thinks this is a better idea then all these small teams trying to take on each other as well as all the other AMA teams. I think we (Buell) can hold our own in ASRA/CCS/WSMC/WERA/CMRA etc.. I think we need a couple of folks to step up and TEAM up.. (ok, I'm stopping before I start frothing at the mouth..)

Good post Blublak, however I don't feel that the responsibility of fielding a quality FX effort should be put on the dealer network. This shortcomming falls indirectly on Buell and directly on HD.

All anons here are reliable. Count on it.

Your premise that "there is no cohesive effort to build further upon last year's learning season" is inaccurate and frankly ridiculous. Where do you come up with such silliness?

Joe,
There was no "AMA FX factory team effort" last year. There was factory support for the teams who wanted to race AMA FX. The factory did step up for a couple races in support of Jeremy at Laguna Seca and Mid Ohio if I recall correctly.

2007 looks to be another very interesting year in Buell racing. With the XBRR winning its first national race right out of the box, and with teams in Europe achieving great success, it's all good. : )\

Go Buell Racing!!
