I recall froggy mentioning these as replacements for Uly OE units.
Any experience with the on a Uly?
... and maybe a stupid question, but how does a VR control and 'switch off' stator output?

I replaced three VR's on a 91 Harley before I bought a Compufire. That bike has over 100,000 miles on the Compufire with no problems. I read some folks had bad customer service from them but I had a problem with an ignition system from them and even though I was way out of warranty, (7 years), they sold me a replacement at half price. Ended up I had a bad coil that caused the ignition system to fry so it wasn't Compufires fault. I've been a believer in their products for years.

Good experience.
I believe your Harley has a triple phase stator, right?
'08+ Uly is single phase. Not sure if Compufire produces a single phase model.

Nope, Harley is single phase. My Uly is triple phase. If you search this subject they listed the part number for the right one but they won't just bolt up, you would have to make a mounting plate for it. I believe you would want part number: 55150. It's listed as single phase only. Might give them a call and double check.

Then there seems no reason that the Compufire 55150 wouldn't work on a single phase Uly with a 30 amp stator.
I'm in touch with the person over at Roadster cycles (who sells the Mosfet model). He also sells a series regulator but he says that he's been having trouble making it work properly with the Uly's finicky electrical system. I wonder how the Compufire would do.

I thought that a series VR had a different wiring configuration, but looks like same leads as stock: battery, ground and 2 from stator.
Do you know HOW a VR can regulate output from the stator? I still don't' quite get it.

the 55150 model does work. I used it on my 08 STT before I realized my stator was bad. I decided to change to the 3 phase XB stator and the 3 phase VR from compufire.

All you have to do is wire it into the factory harness and add your preferred connections. I relocated mine from the front to under the seat so I had to extend the stator wiring a bit.

You also need to fab up a way to mount the VR.

Here's a few shots of how I mounted the 55150 on my '08.

Motorcycle is 2009 Buell XB12Scg

Here is the voltage regulator I installed after adjusting wires length and building mounting plate.
