This happens every time dyna beads are discussed. A lot of people use them and swear by them and a couple go nutso about it. Really, if they made imbalance worse, I would imagine that a lot of people would say "it make things worse" but I haven't heard that.
Soooo... If you like them, use them. If you don't, use weights.
Me, I like them, or rather the airsoft pellets I use.
No, I don't say they work to make myself feel better about the few bucks I spent on the pellets.
YMMV.

The link that 'Thetable' provided to ADVRIDER is a real Hornets nest of dynabead discussion. I did like the video of the plastic bottle. Makes sense intuitively though don't presume to understand all the physics. Amazing how emotionally invested folks get about their personal position on things like this. I hadn't heard of ANY tire failures as a result of using them - so at best they work - at worst they don't. For $10...who cares. I think I may still beta test 'em for fun.

Well, dang it...an analysis of an idealized model of "dyna beads," e.g. a small damped cylinder rolling around within a larger cylinder which has an unbalance...might just make a neat grad student project.

If I do anything with it I'll let y'all know.

Yes it definitely would.

look in the pits at any race track no beads just static balancers

The high acceleration/braking loads are understood to keep them from working. Then again, neither my trip to work nor my weekend jaunts are on the track.

But hell, I spent years racing cars with and without balancing wheels. There is a little difference between balanced and unbalanced, but on track, you don't spend much time at a specific speed, so the unbalanced wheel never really has a chance to stay in the resonance frequency where you can start building amplitude.

Exactly. All the beads might do is prevent vibration at the resonant frequency of the wheel/suspension assembly. The imbalance will be worse; tire wear will likely suffer.

So while the beads may damp vibration, they cannot balance. Wheel weights will balance the wheel and in so doing preclude onset of resonant vibration.

You sir are not correct. There have been a couple independent studies showing longer tire life, and even better fuel economy in both passenger vehicles and OTR trucks. But in all reality, I don't care enough to look for them, as I have no vested interest in the company. You don't like the idea, you have a problem with the idea and say that it doesn't work, although you have never tried them, as opposed to the thousands who have run them successfully and love the results. If anyone is still reading this thread, then make up your own mind based on either speculation or proven results.

Good day sir. I said good day!

It should be prudent to consider the stance of motorcycle tire manufacturers on the issue over marketing hype and personal opinion.

Furthermore, any additional mass added to the inside of a tire will cause that section of the tire to bulge in the effected area, more so with increasing speed of rotation. Thus the tire will wear more quickly and unevenly at that section, the same as it does when a tire patch is applied to the inside surface of a tire.

This is why wheel weights are applied to the rigid metal rim, not on or within the rubber tire, this is so that tire wear is not compromised.

YEP DOC - Time to bring in some willing grad student for the betterment of humanity & motorcyledom. A definitive study as to whether these are the "cats pajamas" or "snake beads". Hope your Yullow Uly is racking up the miles on spring break...with you on it of course. j
