Let's see, my 05 zx10r mods:

Brake lines and master cylinder.
brake levers
slip on/ exhaust servo undone
power commander and ignition module, tre
steering damper
Stock tires sucked bad
added oem euro signals front/ rear
alarm
throttle meister bar ends
gps mount
and what ever other misc stuff I am forgetting.

Uly mods:

Mirrors
Tall screen (currently running stock one)
Bag on triple tail
GPS mount

I hate to think which bike I'd sell if it came to parting with one of them thogh.

And no way does it handle badly, it constantly amazes me that the tallest buell handles so well and I can only imagine the others are sweet.

So far you have posted twice. Once to describe your lever coming off on June 1st and once in this thread. You don't bother to come back once you have posted and aren't really interested in any dialogue.

You are paving the quickest route to removal from BadWeb. We, as a group, take great care to answer questions and problems for those who want help.

Those who post here simply to start crap usually don't fine much longevity or help.

Don't feed the trolls...

XB's have great suspensions unless one is too stupid or lazy to read the OM and understand the motorcycle. That goes for any motorcycle.

If he'd posted complaining about some of the other (real) issues some of us have faced he would have been accepted into the fold. But he hits and runs whining about something he should handle himself.

You aint seen nothing yet, those were just Texas roads. Put me on the GA Twisties with Paintshaker, Smoke and Gentleman John then you will see the Uly in its native habitat.

The Uly will and can be a real world trackable bike with almost zero modifications.

Stevibiker.... needs to buy a clue.

Sorry guys I'm just pissed off. I owned a 1200 GS before this and it was THE bike for me, it gave me so much confidence and I rode like the wind on it but it was the most unrealiable bike I've ever had and I've owned a Ducati!!!
I do adjust the suspension, I can read the manual but I'm afraid I just don't get it?
I have only done 1500 miles on the Uly in the last year actually due to me having had a serious eye operation and I lost the use of my right eye. Everything is healing now.
This is maybe just not the bike for me but honest I have tried and you're right the dealer did not help enough, too interested in the HOGS!
Sorry to diss your fav bike.

You would be well served to meet up with one of the fine Ulynuts in your area and take some set up lessons. Not saying you didn't do it right but I find it funny you think so poorly of a great bike. Perhaps it really isn't for you, not every bike is for every person.

I've read the manual myself but never have adjusted the set up from where the shop set it up. They followed the manual for my size and even with full bags it runs great for me but, I'm not a knee dragger. I do need to learn more about the set up though should anyone ever decide to ride with me. Like my wife!

Hey ! So what if Stevie don't like the Uly. Who cares ? The Uly isn't perfect...I know thats disturbing to some, but what bike doesn't have it's flaws and idiosyncracies ? I've certainly had my fair share of annoyances with mine. The R1200GS is a good machine - though not without it's 'troubles' as well. I've also got an ST1300 & 650KLR, they ain't exactly maintainance free either. Just got the Uly back yesterday after 2 weeks in the shop for warranty work. The point is...it's still the one I ride 90% of the time. Will likely sell the others - the Uly patiently takes me beyond my riding skills & all the other places I want to go. Many bikes have their virtues, to be sure, but we choose Uly's because they just work for us, and are willing to overlook the flaws for all the fun this bike provides in return. Let Stevie go find a bike that works for him - we got the one that works for us. Taking mine for a picnic to Mt St Helens this morning - I will gently put my arms around her rear wheel bearings as we nap in the afternoon sun (or fog, or snow, or...)

Hey Buelldual - Took her to Yellowknife mid June. Thats where I blew the rear shock & had to turn around before the 300 dirt miles via Ft simpson. Doing the Haul road next year. If you're going with a bunch of Uly's in 2010 you may want to consider forwarding some spare parts to Dawson or Fairbanks. I carry spare belt, bearings etc... but draw the line at shocks. I will post my next year adventure so folks can benefit from my mistakes...what ever they might be. 'chow' j PS - everyone should be sure their kickstand bolts are locktited !

Thanks for coming back to your thread. We have several folks who swing through BadWeb for the singular purpose of grinding axes. In fact, we have an individual who is a Harley guy that works at a dealer with a Buell guy. The Harley guy creates fake identities, claims to own this model or that, and then complains about fake problems online. He simply doesn't like Buells and takes great delight in reeling folks in.

You will find BadWeb a fantastic place even for folks who have problems. We only ask that you dialogue with us, so that we can help. Rolling in grenades and leaving simply wont get you anything but ire.

Your results are NOT typical. There is a reason why your bike is having problems, and those problems have solutions.

There are also solutions available for wind blast as well.

We, as a group, love nothing more than taking someone who is having buyers remorse and turning them into raving fans!

Will you let us help you?

The Uly is a great handling bike Stevie. I may be bias because I have only owned two bikes, a blast and my orange Uly. The blast was first and I liked the handling of it as a starter bike and decided I wanted a bike that handles well and can travel.

My Uly is used 99% of the time for all my travels except to Chicago in the winter time. It has made the trip from Montgomery, AL to East Dubuque, IL three times and were straight through rides from early morning to late night (15hrs total).

With 43K on the bike it has served me well and I plan on keeping until she dies. Then go get another. Love the smile I get everytime I start her up.

But as others have said, not every bike is for every person. Got a friend that swears by his GS and the problems he has. But to the same I would not go buy one, too expensive for what they are.

Those shots are in Suches at "Gixxer Corner". Sanches did those shots, and I believe he will be there again in October.

FT Bstrd - nice welcoming response to Stevie. He may have been wondering..."where is the love"...? One should try asking first instead of critisizing - big difference in the result. Anyway - his wind issue could be simply solved with Palmer brackets and a 16" parabellum or ZG+4. BWB site has helped me find solutions to almost every problem I've had - Great/knowlegable/helpful people ! Don't want to change foot position with the aftermarket foot pegs - I'm comfy right where I am. A friend has some pegs on his GS with allen set screws on the traction surface. I'm going to drill,tap & loctite 6 of 'em on each peg. Slipped off my wet, muddy peg while trying to mount (on the ferry going across the Mackenzie river) as the boat/landing craft was plowing into the bank - fell against a camper full of very startled dogs - saved me from being the first overboard biker though. Embarrasing ! I'll let folks know how the project turn out. j

Hummm, I think the set-screws could work out. It makes sense the pointed set-screws would work well in mud whereas a high friction coating (for instance) might not.

For me, I am mostly satisfied with the foot pegs but there are occasions when I want more traction. I was thinking of filing the existing pegs to add some sharper corners but not sure that would help with mud.

I wonder if there is something that can be added to the pegs as needed and yet be totally secure when installed. I would love to be able to flip the pegs over with a simple tool and get the two styles of pegs when I need them.

I will send a rider out on a demo with about a 50-50 shot at selling the bike.... I come out with them and do a lead and a follow on the bike for the demo, and it is a done deal. (unfortunately I do not get to lead all the demos due to floor coverage. but I have yet in 3 years that went out with me and did NOT buy the bike) They handle like nothing else, quit comparing it to everything else and enjoy it for what it is. (the single most fun bike that has ever held a spot in my garage)

By the way Bertotti, Ulynuts are few and far between in this part of Scotland, it's hard enough to find a Buell at all!!
I was at a rally last weekend at the border with England and there were at least 5 thousand bikes - not one Uly did I see. I got a lot of looks wondering what my ride was and it did attract a lot of interest.

there just seems an awful lot to do.

First and foremost is to make sure your suspension is set up correctly and your tires are properly inflated.

The suspension settings are in the user's manual and all the necessary tools are in the little Buell tool kit. The front preload will take the most time, but even working those an 1/8 of a turn at a time it won't take more than ten minutes or so to get it set up right.

Steviebiker - Iain Palmer is your 'neighbor'. Got my brackets in 5 days all the way across the Atlantic, then 3000mi across the USA. Don't know if you've had a chance to contact him but the brackets also improve (I think) the looks of the bike. My R1200GS equipped riding partner & 'nerdowell' fellow traveler thinks the Uly looks both "mean and very capable" - he sez it just needs a new rider to live up to it's full potential. Enjoy the fact that there are probably fewer XB12X s out there world wide, than BMW has in Glasgow. People are constantly walking up with great puzzlement...what the hell is THAT ?! "It looks like a giant insect"...Gonna paint it Praying Mantis colors.

Hi Jphish, I have got the palmer brackets fitted and yes it does add to the look and made all the difference to the ride, I have also raised the handlebars and fitted a taller screen. I like the fact that noone else has a Uly round here and it gets a lot of interest. Now that I'm out and about again in the biking world after my latest eye traumas I'm sure I'll spread the Uly word. A mate of mine just loved the bike after a hoon about on it and that give me a bit of a boost.
I am a member of a local bike club but the club runs are mainly North Scottish Highlands based, awsome roads Rides down south will be on my ownsome I'm afraid.

Hey Steviebiker - Yeah, handle bars definitely needed a lift! One of the first mods I did was 1" risers - helped, but thinking another inch might even be better. Also added CRG adjustable clutch lever & Touratech kickstand "foot", since I park on dirt alot and beer can's not always available. Glad you and Iain made contact - Those brackets should be standard equipment. Just added a wrist rocker and Kaoko throttle 'lock'. Long trips kill my wrists - this should alleviate some of the numbness...that occassionally spreads to my brain. Another 6 mos of mods and I may have to cash in my retirement account & go back to work. 'Chow' j

Hi Stevie,
I wish I'd known you were up there in April of this year, I spent a long weekend hooning around the Highlands and Skye, based ourselves in Portsonochan for a weekend, by Loch Awe.
It took me around 5,000 miles to really gel with my bike, I had to play around with the suspension settings, but by far the best improvement I made to the handling was to get rid of the awful stock 'dual purpose' tyres and go for dedicated road ones. I've had Bridgestone BT021's - superb tyre, really confidence inspiring but crap mileage, only 3,500 from the rear. I now use Michelin Pilot Road 2's, also very good, not perhaps as grippy ultimately as the 021's but last twice as long.
Listen to Ft Bstrd, try out different settings, give yourself time to really get used to the bike and I reckon you'll be grinning as much as the rest of us after a couple more thousand miles.
