I havent heard much about royal purple besides that they add alot of zinc.I like the K&N oil filter. Its black has a weld nut on the bottom to help remove if you should overtighten it. And its supposed to filter more with its synthetic fibers.

Just my vote, but why risk it with the trans?
Buell is very specific about the Formula+ with the latest transmission, and it only takes 1 quart of it at $5-$6.

I woudln't hesitate to try any top brand diesel rated (API CH, CG, etc if I recall) oil, as the manual says is OK "if you cannot get H-D oil". The "C" is for compression ignition (diesel), and the second letter denotes what version of the API spec it meets.
I do not plan to ever run the H-D engine oil.
You can get great prices on the Shell (Rotella) and Mobil (Delvac) brands of diesel engine oils when you buy in 1 gallon sizes.
These are very good oils if you aren't interested in paying for synthetic.

I have recently started buying Mobil 1 brand oil filters, since they are usually in stock at the auto parts store, and I have no dealer nearby.

That's what a bunch of people have said.

Stay with Formula+ on the transmission so you don't have clutch slipping and shifting problems. I wonder if that will help prevent stator burn-up too? I forget exactly what was said about stator burn-up. Not sure if it's different brand of oil or just bad winding or the heat build-up from a bad 77 connector?

Use whatever brand oil you want in the engine.

I have some Valvoline 20w50 "motorcycle" oil I run in my Kawasaki. Can that be used for the XB engine? After that, I might switch to Mobile 1 syn.

I for one second the use of Formula+ for the transmission. This was a special fluid that they came out with when they changed to helical cut gears in the tranny. It has a change out of 10000kms also which is twice what the old stuff had.

20W50 Valvoline motorcycle oil should be great for the engine.
