pretty sure those are stock belt guards from 04-xbs. The 05's had the longer swingarm and I think the guard might have changed shape a little. | ||

Be advised that if your bike experences drive belt failure (my '06 did three times) the dealer is not supposed to warranty it if there has been any modification of the original guards. Just sayin' (Message edited by debueller on January 18, 2008) | ||

Should be covered under warranty. It's a lifetime belt per factory specs. I don't know if it's classified as a wear item. | ||

Just talked with Buell Customer Service. Belt is covered under warranty unless the dealer sees signs of abuse. Damn, that was good to hear!! Lots of good info here.. thanks guys. Not sure changing belt guard could be called abuse. Guard could be swapped back to original to avoid any questions. | ||

Guard could be swapped back to original to avoid any questions The Uly belt guards are beefier to accommodate off road/gravel use. If you aren't doing ANY off road, I'd say you are fine. If you are, keep the stockers. As far as "swapping back to original", I'd be careful. I've heard urban legends of individuals swapping out micron exhausts causing lean conditions back to stock only to be presented with a picture of the after market exhaust on the bike by the dealer provided by Buell Customer Services taken }from BadWeb. It constitutes fraud, technically. | ||

The first belt that was warrantied had not only broke, but had small pebbles imbedded in it. The service writer specifically asked me if I had removed/modified the guards. I, of course, had not, so they warrintied it. The drive belt IS a warranty item. So is the idle pulley, wheel bearings, cooling fans, sidebag latches, rearview mirrors that do not stay adjusted, and fork seals, (I know first hand). Buell has an excellent warranty and they stand behind their bikes...... However, a good dealer is key....... | ||

While we're on the subject of Ulysses belt guards, I'd like to know if the two piece upper belt guard from the '06+ short swingarm XBs would fit in place of the one piece upper belt guard on the '06+ long swingarm XBs: XB12S upper belt guard:  XB12SS upper belt guard:  Just from comparing them side by side at the dealer the mounting points look to be the same, but the only way to know for sure is to swap them and find out. | ||

I have the 2 piece upper guard and hugger pictured above on my Uly. The belt guard will bolt on but the hugger will have to be cut out a little around the shock. Very cool. How well does the shorter hugger work at keeping dirt off of the shock? Any closer pictures of where the hugger had to be cut? Thanks! | ||

The short hugger does allow a little more dirt but not as much as you would think. Besides my Uly is seldom off pavement. 2 things the slot has to be cut about 3/4" deeper and a little wider because part of the shock will go through it. Also notice the clamp on the rear brake line you would need to add. The bolt holes line up perfectly.  Mark | ||

I've got a hole in the drive belt on my sportster from a piece of gravel, and it never goes off pavement. Fortunately it's not right at the edge-about a thin 1/4" away. I'd be very careful about removing the stock belt guard since it covers the drive belt pretty well. | ||
