Hey everyone! We'll I finally got my bike in and started putting a bunch of stuff on it, including a Ceebailey's tall (+18?) windshield. I am 6"2'. I went in a ride to check everything out and have some fun and the windshield is CRAZY loud! the wind hits at about my neck height. If I stand up on the pegs into the full wind... it gets quieter and if I crouch like I am 5"8' is is quiet and pretty pristine. Has anyone else had experience with this? What was your solution? What is the best quiet wind & weather barrier you've used? Thanks once again, Tom | ||

If you search the archives, you'll find this subject covered quit a bit. I'm 6'1" and find the stocker to be the best. The Buell tall and Zero Gravity made too much noise. Congratulations on the bike! | ||

I am 6' even. I have the stock screen with a Laminar Lip attached. It brings smooth air up to my chin bar. I am 6' even. | ||

5'10". Just replaced the stock windshield after running the Buell tall for two months. Like others, I didn't like the noise/turbulance the tall screen generates right at the helmet. | ||

I feel that your best bet is to do like I and a few others have done. That is to buy a handlebar mounted wind screen and do what is necessary to make it fit the ULY. Most of these Uly specific screens screw on to the fairing just like the stock and most everyone complains of the turbulence. I've found that mounting closer to your body reduces and can eliminate the turbulence altogether if the screen is large enough. Of course I am also referring to very large screens that many ULY riders will have nothing to do with. Then again, they haven't ridden behind a nice and quiet barn door either. My butt and lower back can't take being forced into the seat by the wind, so I prefer a quieter experience behind a large windscreen. To each their own preference though. | ||

That is why there was the smilie at the end. My point is just that there are so many things that contribute to what an individual finds to be the best windscreen. Even after people read who has what, it's not uncommon to see "I tried brand X, and it sucks". It would be great if there was a way to try all the windshields out there before deciding. I just think it's best to realistically evaluate your preferences, and take your best shot after reading these posts. I just ordered the Zero Gravity +4" tinted. My thought is that if there's too much buffeting (i'm 5'14") I'll take it to my local plastics shop and have them trim it 1.5" or so. Then see how it works. Worsest case scenario, i'll end up with a stock height ZG tinted screen. But that's just me, i like to experiment - i guess that's why i can't remember the late sixties-early seventies. John | ||

Then see how it works. I have the same screen, and am 6'2" also. I don't get any real buffeting, but more wind noise due to the air rushing by just beneath my helmet. It's less noticeable if I am using an '06 seat,almost perfect, compared to the standard '07 seat. I thought about cutting off 1" or so also, but it is so easy to just change shields that I haven't bothered. Just order an extra set of mounting pins. I run the ZG for long trips for more protection when I am using ear plugs anyways, and during the "winter" months here in Florida. | ||

I just looked at Parabellum and their selection of heights. Their site also says that the screen is mounted in the stock way. Looking at this  there looks there is no way those puppies will hold up at speed. Anyone here using this shield? Steve | ||

I am holding out for the "Madstad" adjustable bracket. Any one windshield seems to work only within a certain senario, add a passenger, change jackets or face a stiff head wind and you are back to square-one! I am 6'-0" and have a Laminar lip on the Buell tall screen. It works some of the time....... | ||

Lovehamr... Thats my bike on the Parabellum site.. Charly used my bike to prototype all his Uly shields... What you don't is that there are actually upper supports that make it very strong. His work is top notch.. the hard part is of course finding the right height wind sheild for you. I did a few pretty detailed write up on these a while back. I'll see if I can find the links and post them. | ||

I'm using a 25" Parabellum after my Cee Baleys snapped in two on the first day of a 7 day Iron Butt event. (see profile) With the upper supports and bolt on shield, the Parabellum is rock solid. I only put on 10M miles last year, due to a mishap last summer. I'd highly recommend the shield for touring, cold weather, rain, etc. Probably not the best for track days. Bob | ||

16" Parabellum WITH Madstad adjustable mounts. The best set-up I've ever used on any bike I've ever ridden!  Bug Mark at Madstad. He really needs to put the adjustable mounts into production! | ||

Gamdh-I have the 24" Parabellum shield and love it. On an unrelated note, what brand of aux lighting is shown on your Uly? Does the charging system handle the extra load ok? | ||

Dio- those are the Saeng Night Cutters. Loved the light output (@55w each), so no problem with charging system. At first tried mounting to Blinker stalks .. finally ended up with the light bar made by someone here (no longer making them). My biggest issue was with the Saeng mounting system. Good idea but the lights tended to move on rough roads/off road. Note that they are no longer on the bike. (Message edited by gamdh on January 13, 2008) | ||

I've been riding for about a year with a Laminar Lip replacing the stock shield itself, stuck directly to the flyscreen. I'm 5'11" w/ '07 seats on an '06, and it works great for me. Coming up on my annual trip to the NV high desert this past weekend I first re-tried my Buell Tall for a couple weeks. Same opinion as I had last year, lots of buffeting and a ridiculous amount of noise in my Buell helmet. Went ahead and replaced my stocker and installed my Lip to it. I'm sold. Puts the blast right above my eyeport, takes it off the torso. A little helmet buffet but it's gentle. At speeds up to about 120 this weekend no hint of any effect on handling or separation of either the 3M Dual Locks or the shield pulling away from the grommets in the flyscreen. Not the best-looking arrangement but it's staying put!  | ||

+1 for the ZG +4 inch tinted(plus it just looks cool). I'm 6'2", long of trunk, and bought it for highway/winter use. No real buffeting, less wind on my arms/shoulders. As long as I don't slouch, my head is in clean air. FYI-06 w/ standard tall seat. cheers | ||

+1 on Vagabonds set up. Have a +4 Zero Gravity with Madstad bracket. Works great for me. All the way back and pulled up to the highest possible "length".  The full up position works well "off road". Sucks on road above 50mph.  Current position puts wind just at shoulders and bottom of my helmet.  I'm 6'4" and don't really get any lower in height from my standing and sitting height. Long of both body and legs. About the only thing I'd like to improve is the side wind. With my 3/4 length jacket, I get allot of body induced wiggle at higher speeds. I think it mostly comes from the narrowness of the shield and the fit of the jacket. With a tight fitting short jacket, no issues.  |
