Gymg-I did not notice any horspower nor torque increase, just seems to be smoother down low. I can now be at 22-2500 rpm and not be lurching around. That was worth $30 to me. I am not going to get the race ecm nor the muffler, nor the k&n. I am happy now with what I have. I was going to go the other route just to see what would happen at the low and mid range, but now there does not sem to be any point in it for me.

That is what I am hoping for. I have no real complaints honestly but a little more down low for riding around town would be great.

That's what I noticed... Better low end throttle response, smoother running around town...and it feels like a bit more punch under acceleration.

The big change that was not advertised is that they have different cylinder heads. I'm not sure of what the changes were, but they do have different part numbers. This along with the airbox hacking would warrant a change in ecm calibration to me for sure!

Old PN: 16872-02 FR 16875-02 RR
New PN: 16872-07 FR 16875-07 RR

The old bikes don't supercede to this number, so that makes me think that they really have something different.

Maybe they lowered the compression just a little to help prevent the pinging issues???

That would suggest that a reflash of an '06 might not be the capital idea it first seemed.

I have not reflashed, nor do I intend to until I read consistent reports that it is needed and/or foul my plugs. There have been a number of reports that the plugs look real good without the reflash. It is running way to good right now to mess with it.

I changed my plugs when I had the 07 air box on, plugs looked great without a reflash.

I would like to know what the difference is though.

I think you have discovered the cause for pinging and excessive fan operation in some of the effected Ulys........excessive compression?

Ok I got my aircover in yesterday.

Any tricks besides remembering to use a t27 torx?

Any input from those who have done the reflash? Is is any different? Seems like many are just changing the cover without any reflash.

Gtmg,
If you've got an air impact driver then set the air to 80lbs and it should do the trick. Worked for me.

Gtmg-I did not get the reflash. Bike is running great. Others have commented that plugs are looking very good without reflash. I am thinking until I see something definative I will not get the reflash.

No reflash for me...everything seems fine...plugs perfecto on a "modified" 06 box.

GTMG,

I believe I started this thread and abandoned it eventually. I did get the reflash about a month or so after installing the lid. I did it because A) I was at the dealer for a BRAG event and my local MSF Instructor/ULY rider had done the swap himself after talking to Eric about it personally, B) I was noticing that my MPG had dropped substantially which led to C) I was worried of fouling a plug and was not ready to be checking them regularly on a bike with 2k miles. The flash worked great for me. Fuel mileage went back to normal and bike runs great. The only problem I have had since I did it is that my bike does not start cold like a FI bike should. I have to blip the throttle as soon as it fires or it won't start. I'm not sure if this is because of the airbox, flash or just the nature of the bike when cold. I have not posted to get an assessment of what everyone else is seeing in the cold weather behavior of the beast.

Your cold idle problems could probably be rectified by using a different oil. Mobile makes a 0W50 which we use in our diesels here. It should idle better as you will have a much thinner oil when cold. I can only imagine how thick the 20-50 is at or near freezing.

At any rate using the Mobile 1 0W50 would ensure you get good oil supply to the engine when it is started cold.

Mine isn't starting as easy either BUT I must preface that with the need to get my TPS reset or something because my idle is really on the fritz lately. Once it warms up it comes down to idle really slow when revved up. I don't think I have an intake seal leak because other than the idle being slow on the rebound it runs great. This idle situation seems to be getting worse as I procrastinate.

With stock everything on my 06 except the 07 airbox, my bike has started just fine in the cold weather. Today's ride to work was 32F... The bike fired up and idled just fine.

I haven't kept track of my mileage as it's been really cold and well...I haven't been exactly easy on the throttle. The cold air has affected how much the front tire is staying on the ground...

....or did you mean not staying on the ground! Mine has really turned up a notch breathing this cold air!!!

"06 modified air box, no flash, all stock, cranking slow, 20-50 oil, rough idle for 60 seconds, will pop and fart for a couple of miles, then smooths out, and loves taking in the cold air like it can't get enough!

....Or is it just me? Too bad it won't run like this when it is 90F +.

I've just finished my first tank of gas after installing the 07 airbox. 35 mpg. Down from my usual of 45 mpg or so.
Didn't notice much performance increase, mainly just intake noise.
I'm thinking of putting the 06 box back on due to the poor fuel economy with the 07.
Can anyone that has had the re-flash recommend which way to go? O7 with re-flash or stick the old box back on. I'd have to buy another 06 box by the way, got trigger happy with the drill

Bosh,
Get the reflash. If nothing else you can add to the pool of knowledge here on the board. Check your plugs before doing anything. See if they are running rich. If so then maybe you need TPS reset or 07' reflash or both. If you truly have lost mpg then I'll bet your plugs show a darker color. I would think they have to if you are sucking more gas.
