I installed my +6 inch Cee Baileys windshield on my Ulysses with New mounting pins . Test rode it down the road and at approx. 75 mph , the windshield came off !! It was after dark , so I retrieved it the next day. In pieces. I sent them an e-mail , no response yet. When it was ordered on Dec. 15th. ,there was no mention of the New and Improved Version that screws on . Needless to say , DISAPPOINTED !!!!!!

dude, try a search. I know this has been mentioned already and that the company(Cee Bailey) traded out shorter ones with the dealer who had the problem. You might try PMing Buelldyno_guy, he's the one that already posted on the subject.

xb12xdude,
Dollars to donuts, if you call them and tell them what happened, and mention the other incident you heard about here, they will sell you the new and improved model for the difference. Sounds like the mounting pins weren't made for that much stress. I've dealt with Cee Baileys for many years and always found them to be easy to work with.

Sorry about your bad luck. I'm sure they will take care of you.

Those windshields will stay put if you carriage bolt and rubber o-ring them and just forget those darned pins. Notice how the stock fly screen is designed more for looks than anything else. As soon as you start increasing the height of the shield you exceed the use limits and intended purpose of the stock pins. Those aircraft windshield rocket scientists should know better. Harsh words but we're talking potentially grievous injury from those zero engineered windshields. We only know of a couple of these windshields being bought and both have launched off at reasonable speeds. I80 in Nebraska has a 75 mph speed limit. Chances are they have sold very few of these windshield but they'd better recall them or send bolts to all who bought those Frisbees.

I agree with Electra, but would take it the step further to just avoid these altogether until there has been some engineering testing. I would be afraid that using bolts in lieu of pins would only increase shock loading around the lower mounting holes and thereby cause eventual cracking of the fly screen and/or wind shield. I think the problem is not so much the mounting system as it is the loads induced by the amount of leverage inherent in having so much unsupported plastic exposed to wind loading.

I posted on the closed thread that the folks at CB's replaced the three +6 with the requested +2 and they seem to be OK. The one on mine is working great and at my 5' 8" size I get clean air right at my helmet visor, with very little at my chest. We are going to try some V.3 Micro-Swirl edging from www.saeng.com. it is a molded clip on and cost about $12 a foot. We will put it on the +2 and the stock just to see what it does. Will post what happens when we do. ... Terry

Hey All,
Just checked out the Cee Baileys site. They have a monster shield for the XB12X that looks like it uses the 6 flyscreen bolts for attachment (Ulysses # 2). I think the one that uses the pins, just needs support farther up the shield, maybe a set of mounting arms that attach to the handlebars would work? Course, it wouldn't look as nice, but may work?
Cheers

, Twice !!! They are going to credit the price of the +6 windshield off of the 12 inch integral windshield.
Great communication ,and concern about customer satisfaction !!!! My new windshield should be here in a few days.

Hey find out who you talked to. When I called them
I talked to some guy with a middle eastern accent who just said I was screwed because I missed the 30 day window to return my original flying windshield.

I've been in contact with Cee Baileys . They actually called Me.

Me too yesterday, as they were doing a follow up on the three +6's that have came off. They were great and are sending us one of the new tall ones that mount using the six screws to test. In this day and age it's great to see a company that really care about what they sell. ... Great Folks you can't go wrong dealing with them. ... Terry

Doing their best to offset any future lawsuits.

I've bought Cee Bailey's products in the past, and they are good people to work with. If they were trying to avoid lawsuits, I would think they would simply stop making motorcycle windshields and stick to their core business which is making aircraft plastics.

Guess I'm just an optimist. I hate to think that customer service for the customers sake is dead and it's all about the lawyers and bottom line now.

Craig is probably right. They are trying to avoid lawsuits. Who in their right mind wouldn't. I go out of my way every day to avoid lawsuits. That's just business.

Now, they could go the way of BMW and simply deny that there is a problem with their product.

But, no. They are taking a proactive move to call people about a problem with their product. Same thing I would do in their place. I don't see this as a bad thing.

Whether or not this is the primary reason for the calls is hard to say. From my dealings with CeeBailey's, they seem to have a genuine concern for their customers. I've talked with them several times about different products and only once did I get ahold of somebody who didn't seem concerned.

I'll sound a bit xenophobic here, but he did have a foreign accent and sounded a bit beligerent. But I asked to talk to his supervisor and he seemed truely concerned.

Just my two cents. I like CeeBaileys and will continue to do business with them. Once they get a product worked out, it ends up being a high quality one. That's all I can ask.

The call I got was not about lawsuits it was follow-up on what happened to me with a good discussion on how that windshield the +6 could be held in place. I told them about this Board and where to look for the post on this subject and how someone had taken pictures of how the numbered Windshields are held in place. They asked us if we would test a new windshield design for H-D Electra Glides. ... We said yes we would. ... There was no smoke, mirrors, or slight of hand , just good business practices. ... Terry

I don't blame them. They'd be nuts to just be hoping for the best. Anyway, I've got the Euro cut 14" Touring windshield on order from them. I'm hoping for the best.

I'd rather give my money to Buell though. They seem slow on the extra's if you ask me.
