Let me know your ETA for Waterloo, I'll get together with Jerry and Dave and figure out what we'll be doing that evening and let you know where we'll be at This is a guess, it s 300 miles from springfield, figure at least one stop in between, maybe 2, mostly secondary roads, leaving the races around 4 pm, figure between 9 and 10 pm, maybe a touch later, so where is the drinking going to take place and who needs a roommate in waterloo and KC( i head home after that) R |

Ferris, I talked to Jay Leno today about us meeting him at the Rock Store on Sunday. It won't happen unless we get there between 10:30 and 12. He leaves promptly at 12 so he can go to work. But he'll be happy to pose for pictures as long as we are there before he leaves. With that said, the scenic route Al, Eric & I are planning is made for photo ops and such, so we're probably not going to be at the Rock Store before noon. We can do the next best thing though... take it easy, enjoy the sights, lean into the turns and have fun! Sparky |

Mark, You ordered a Corbin?! You'll have to let me know how it is... Jerry/all attending the Occotillo leg, I'm driving out to Occotillo, then riding up to meet the group at Julian for pie, so that I can pack camp gear. If anyone needs anything brought out (beer/food etc.) I'll be happy to bring it with me... Just let me know. I know Don is sending me a box with sleeping bag etc. Don't worry about room. I just built a trailer... Look forward to seeing you all again. |

I know there was a question of where Ocotillo is. It's a huge area, but here's Ocotillo proper where S-2 meets I-8...

Charlie: Yup. Got 1 on order from Al. Said he had some of the C/F looking ones coming in from Corbin. I've been looking at the Corbin seats for a while and, well, you know about my hard-on for carbon fiber anything, so I went and ordered one. BTW I'll see you in Ocotillo. I'm planning to meet up with the group in Vegas and staying with the ride till Sunday am. |

Ferris, If you'd like, I'll start calling and see what is available tomorrow when I get home from work. Can we get a show of hands as to who will be staying with us in Vegas by tomorrow afternoon so I have an idea of what sort of place we're going to need? I'll take care of getting it all booked too, unless there is a local that has some connections. THIS will be THE celebration of the trip, we've got to do this part right... We've got myself and Ferris, without digging through all of the other posts, please shoot me a PM or post here. |

Alex, M1 Combat Don has done some homework via phone and internet, but i was hoping to have someone on the ground in Vegas, or someone who's been there enough to really know their way around, offer up any ideas. i'd like to stay at one of the "name brand" places on the Strip, such as Luxor, Venetian, Treasure Island, Caesar's, etc. a second floor suite facing the Strip would be cool, for the AfterParty. safety and security for the bikes is a must. there'll be at least six of us, probably more. even if we get an "expensive" suite, divvying up the cost (providing that some of us are willing to sleep on couches and floor) should bring the per-person cost down to something manageable. like i said, i'm open for suggestions. Don and i have e-mailed back and forth a lot and we keep coming back to the Luxor, but maybe there's a better option? FB |

We'll be here at Ocotillo Wells SVRA (State Vehicular Recreation Area) http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=33.151367,-116.111412&spn=0.005163,0.008929&t=h&h l=en (cut and paste link in to a browser address window, multiple comma's in the adress trick the BWB linking code) Most of the time that we go out there, we camp at Hidden Valley instead of Holmes Camp, because there is less people there and Holmes camp is usually filled with rude quad riders doing dusty doughnuts in camp all day and night. We don't have to worry about that this time of year, there will likely be no one out there because it will be hotter than hell itself. Ocotillo Wells SVRA is just barely above the Salton Sea, which is slightly below sea level. Average daytime temps in early september are 105F, but we aren't getting there until late in the day when it will have cooled to a chilly 95F or so, if we're lucky. But Holmes camp has two things that Hidden Valley Camp see http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=33.144972,-116.041846&spn=0.005163,0.008929&t=h&h l=en doesn't have: Trees and pay showers. So bring quarters. We'll likely wake up to a few motocrossers who will show up for a short ride at the crack of dawn before it gets too hot, otherwise, we'll likely have the place to ourselves. You should be able to find your way there via the Google map links. Cell phone coverage is spotty out there. And the Blu Inn and Desert Rose will likely not be open, so we'll need Joanne to bring everything we could possibly need. Ebear, Scott and I tried to get to Killen trail yesterday (part of Sunday mornings ride), but it is still closed after the winter wash outs . But we ran into a forest service employee that said that it MIGHT be open by then, as a truck was scheduled to clear that road last week. We'll see, she gave me the phone number to call. |
