And they go "on and on and on and on and...you know... Thanks for the use of the house Patty!!!! Idylwild......"Tacky Road".... The end...of Part One!!!....

EBear, really sorry to hear about Todd's dad, if you have occasion to talk to him again please let him know we're thinking of them. Evergreen Cafe sounds good. will wait to hear from you after you map out the second half of Saturday's ride as to what time we need to meet you there. i figure it's about 2-1/2 hours from the 'Dome to Wrightwood without breaking TOO many laws, plus i envision several photo op stops along the way, so will prolly need to allow three hours from here to there to hit our mark. thanks, and keep us posted. FB ps: i'm SUCH a slow reader... |

Ferris: We have a "GO" in Kansas at Topeka Harley-Davidson/Buell. Bruce Zimmerman, Buell rider since the RR days, will be on hand with a trained Buell tech awaiting you at 0600 on Tuesday September 6, 2005. If you are going to have some folks in tow, please advise and I'll have the restaurant opened, ready to serve breakfast and I'll get someone (heck, I may do it!) to give you a tour of one of the most fabulous Buell stores in the USA. Don't forget to ask to see the Bar & Shield Awards. . . . HD's highest award. . . . this is the most of them in a single location IN THE WORLD. Court P.S. - watch out for this lady. . . she will be there serving orange juice. (Message edited by jerry_haughton on August 12, 2005) |

Court, Very cool. Thanks for setting it up, see you there perhaps? The 1000 mile service was the one big question in the plans from KC to Colorado. I know I'll be along, anyone else? |

Ohmygosh. . . the first big problem pops up. I'm leaving this one to you guys to sort out. My Mother, hearing that "Buell people" are coming to Topeka is already planning to meet and feed you guys. I take no responsibility for my Mother. This is the lady that George (Daddy) Bush arranged to have flown to Andrews Air Force Base to ride on the maiden voyage of the 747 Air Force One. The only suggestion I'd offer is that those of you who are Democrats keep hush-hush or risk walking for the balance of your trip. I offer apologies in advance. My folks have always, since the first time Erik came to visit in Topeka 15 years ago, have been more enthusiastic about Buells and Erik's Dream than I have. Dad dies 5 years ago but one of my favorite pictures is of him and Erik sitting, far from the crowds, at a picnic bench, both with ear to ear smiles. Dad was a legend in his own sort of a way and no stranger to taking on the world. He did it and won and I suspect he knew, from the first conversation they had, that Erik would as well. You're on your own big guy, now you gotta deal with Mom Canfield! Court |

Gordon Buhle...Don Sabatino and I talked this PM and he gave me the bad and very sad news. I have never met anyone like Gordon who rode, and rode, and rode his bike...that S2 of his had to break a milage record. He would ride anywhere for anything. When Tat lived in Apple Valley, he would ride down from Santa Cruz for the BBQ, visit, and ride home. That guy just rode and rode...distance was no issue for Gordon. But, Gordon was such a nice, quiet, unassuming person. I will miss seeing him at Seca, the BBQ's...just Gordon being Gordon, out riding. |

Court, thanks a million, for everything. it was good to talk to you on the phone last night about Gordon. sorry you never had a chance to meet him, but glad that Erik did. am getting my head screwed back on. have a photo i took of Gordon at SPLASH in '03 sitting on my desk today. he sure loved to ride. Court, the news that Topeka is "GO" is wonderful. we'll be there at 0600 sharp, and if we can be on the road by 0830 then the remaining 600 miles that day should be a relative breeze. THANK YOU! still up in the air what kind of welcoming committee to expect in Colorado Springs that night, but i know it'll be TBear for sure, and hopefully Don Casto. just found out yesterday that 9/6 is the monthly BRAG meeting in Littleton, CO, and i'm trying to talk the gang into having their gig down in Manitou Springs to avoid having to ride up to Denver, only to have to u-turn and hump down (in the dark) to Guffey, which would all make for an 800-mile day for me and Alex. i don't think he likes me THAT much... will post more when i know more. thanks again, Court. I've got the route planned from Wisconsin Dells to Galena, Dyersville and Waterloo... Need to find the time early this week to ride it and get timing figured out. We'll be taking WI 78 the whole way from the Dells to Stockton, IL, then on to US 20 (yeah, it's a highway, but a kick one at that, ask that Court feller, he's ridden it) to Galena for a stop at U.S. Grant's house. Photo ops galore. If time allows, we'll get off of the beaten path for 1.3 miles to take in the river views from my back yard for 5 or 6 minutes, then head to Dyersville by some back woods (fields) roads. I'm not even going to post the route, I had a tough time figuring it out myself and I ride those roads daily. From there we are off to Waterloo, probably back on the straight and boring US 20 unless Dave is aware of another route. If you are planning on meeting us at the Field of Dreams: US 20 has one exit for Dyersville, so you can't really miss it. Heading north through town, you'll cross over a set of railroad tracks, take the next right and that'll take you out to the Field. There are numerous signs in town as well. For those headed with us to Waterloo and in need of lodging: The Heartland Inn has two locations in Waterloo, one at the Crossroads mall, the other right off if Highway 63. The one off of 63 is close to Silver Eagle Buell, the other is, well, by a mall. Dave says the one by the mall has a bit more of a selection of restaurants and watering holes, Mike says the one by the dealership shall suffice with one good restaurant (and watering hole) right next door. I've not the time to scout them out, I'm sure they will chime in though. The Hwy 63 location: http://www.heartlandinns.com/locations/waterloo-greypk.html The 'mall' location: http://www.heartlandinns.com/locations/waterloo-crossrds.html If you're planning on staying the night, pipe up and we can get everyone together and figure out a way to have a bit of a party at whatever location works out best. If you've got questions or want to meet up somewhere along the way, shoot me a PM or post and we'll figure out meeting times and places. Roger: Let me know your ETA for Waterloo, I'll get together with Jerry and Dave and figure out what we'll be doing that evening and let you know where we'll be at. 22 days... We'll be riding for Gordon. |

AND we're gonna meet Court's mom? I can't wait for the stories, but we've got to meet our take off time. Perhaps we'll end up with a few stories that Court will have to pry out of us. Remind me to tell you... I need to refresh my memories of that movie, I'll probably head out there tomorrow and pick up a copy from Don. I know you're not a farmer, but I've done a bit of a stint in that field of work... We've had quite a few weeks of blistering heat, this week brought some great rain, and, in my expert opinion, the corn will be looking great for our visit, and the farmers will be having a good year. GREAT photo potential. Gordon, This game is for you. Prior |
