Looks like I am Vegas bound for the trip. The paperwork still has to go through, but it's a go! Can't believe that Ferris dude roped me into riding across Kansas again, partying for another two nights and then burning 1800 miles back here in 3 days. For those of you who are undecided about Vegas, come on out! It'll be a heck of a party! I'm thinkin I win the mileage award for this adventure... Appleton to Vegas then back to IL. Not bad for one week. Alex |

thanks Craig! not sure what kind of numbers to expect on the Sunday 9/4 launch from Appleton, but being a holiday weekend i think it's reasonable to assume we'll have more riders making the trek down to Waterloo than just me, Dave S., and Alex. as we get closer i bet you'll get a couple of folks to take you up on your offer. thanks again! ps to anyone riding with us on Sunday 9/4 from Appleton, WI to Waterloo, IA: bring a baseball glove! we're stopping at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa and i want to play some catch. i'm gonna root thru my boxes of Old Stuff and dig out my high school baseball glove. me and Alex for sure, and anyone else who wants, we're gonna toss a ball around out on The Field of Dreams for awhile, and i think it's gonna be grand to say that we did. saw an expose recently, The field of dreams is split in two, there are two families that share rights to the field, part way through left field i believe and there is something of a feud brewing, oh i wish i could be there!!! http://www.sportshollywood.com/fodruse.html read all about it here, brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it! http://espn.go.com/page2/s/caple/030911.html |

nice, SLeeZ, especially the second link. Alex posted pix awhile back in his Home Town thread from the Field of Dreams. it's like 20 minutes from his home. i had no idea the place even still existed, and was amazed that not only do they allow you walk out on the field, you can play a ball game on it! when Alex posted his pix i was blown away, and told him that some day, some how, we were gonna ride to the Field of Dreams together and play catch. the only thing i DIDN'T know then was that my wish would come true so soon. Alex visited with the Lansing family just yesterday, and has secured permission for several very unique photo opportunities with Madduck's Ulysses while we're there. and...we're all gonna play a game of catch on the Field of Dreams. i am STOKED!!! I'll let Ferris meet Don (the owner) and he can share his thoughts. I can say that the two entities that own the field have vastly different views of what should be done with the place. One wants mass commercialization of the area, the other wants the field to stay the same way it was when filming was done. The field is indeed split in two, by a set of power lines running overhead, and a difference in ideals. There is also a ton of information about the filming of the movie at the site. Many of the scenes just happened, and weren't even planned. Very very cool. For those that are going to be with us for that portion of the trip, bring a ball glove if you've got room. Also: Please be respectful of the place. I talked long and hard with Don about what we have planned, and have his support. It's something that's not been done there before. I don't want to do anything to tarnish his trust. The Field of Dreams... Can't wait for that, along with the rest of the trip! |

Ferris, Who'd have thought you would be out so soon??? You posted teasers of Zion, here's your teaser of Field of Dreams. I've got some awesome country side planned for the way here too, complete with cow pattys on the yellow line. (Message edited by awprior on August 09, 2005) |

Bart- Come up to the Iowa State Fair this week and you can enter a cow chip tossing contest. Also, that's why we need quick turning bikes around here, it sure isn't the roads. A little Field Of Dreams movie trivia (that Court would appreciate). They didn't want the 69kv transmission line that traversed the field to appear in the movie so they paid to have it temporarily relocated while filming was done. I don't remember if I saw what the fee for that was but it had to be huge. |

JOSH: All riders are welcome. i even put a with it at the top of the page, just to make sure the message was clear. very doubtful we'll have time to play a few innings. it's an adventurous day of riding that Dave S. and Alex are planning, plus the photo ops at Field of Dreams mentioned above will burn some time. but by all means bring your glove! |
