That's the driveway entrance to a friend of mine's house. Thought it would make a really cool background for the trophy photo shoot. |

after further inspection... I can't believe I killed this deer. NO vital organs were hit. The arrow did not penetrate the ribs. It went along the outside of them and came out the front next to his right leg. There was a LOT of blood to follow and he didn't go far. At the angle I shot at him it should have came out the other side. He must have jumped or something at the last second.... but it wasn't his lucky day... SOOOO, I have given up my treestand to the guy that got me back into hunting... the big buck is still out there. Let me tell ya... I was in the stand, I just woke up from my power nap and was watching the squacks and birds do their thing when I heard some movement to my right.... It was a HUGE buck and I'm not joking... the rack on him makes the one I killed look like a button buck. I sit as still as I can, just watching him. He is off to my right, being right handed I have NO shot from the sitting position. I wait for him to move behind some trees and then I stand up and get ready.... My heart is about to explode! I think to myself "I'm glad its gonna take him awhile to get to me... I hope I can settle down in time" I start to calm down and he keeps getting closer... then I here some noise right behind me..... and then a grunt right under me!! I could have spit on his head!! I can't believe another buck is right under my stand!!! He walks a few yards in front of me and about that time the big buck sees him and starts down the hill to do the tango with the little guy.... I get ready... THEN the big buck sees me and puts on the brakes! DAMN!!! He takes a few more steps toward me... looks at the other deer... looks at me... and turns around and trots up the hill away from me.... bummer... I then turn my focus on the guy in the picture. He thinks he is the big dog cause the monster buck took off and he then kinda struts his stuff.... I wasn't impressed... I drew my bow and waited for the shot.... he turned 1/3 and away.... and I released..... From my view point, it was a good hit. I could see the hair come up on his right side.... but he didn't run very far. I "think" the arrow passed thru him so fast he had no idea what just happened... He flagged a little then walked up the hill.... I waited.... I couldn't take it anymore... I had to get down. It was getting dark and I didn't want to lose him. The blood trail was huge and easy to follow. He went down less than 50 yards from my stand but wasn't dead when I saw him... but he didn't move.... I knew it was just a matter of time.... I put another arrow in him to be humane....... It took some convincing... but now my friend is in my stand... he just didn't feel right about hunting from someone else's stand.... I hope he gets gigantour! |

I rarely buy any beef or pork. I cook lots of it at the shop and feed my customers. Full customers are happy customers and just one more thing you can't get at Cabela's! Yesterday we had BBQ venison maid rites. Next Sat we are going to have venison roast. Sat after that, maybe backstrap! |

I got a button buck on Sunday afternoon of opening shotgun season. It was going to be my last push of the weekend, so i knew it was shoot or go home empty. We're in some 7-9' tall prairie grass, and almost all the way through it, I'm thinking, damn, wasted, no deer for me this year. Just then, I see a large doe running my direction, start to pull up my gun, and something catches the corner of my eye, another deer, smaller, but closer and it runs in between the large doe and me, so I shoot, it jumps, but still running, boom #2, down in a heap, bead onto the large doe......nothing, gun jammed!!! WTF!!! My Browning BPS lets me down. That's a gun that does NOT jam, pissed. She was in range and I'm sure I coulda had her (easy to say now hahahaha). Finish the push to be sure, walk back to mine, small, BUT it's meat. And I didn't go out empty handed! Ended up putting two holes in him, one just below the spine, second in his neck, dropped him instantly with that one. For the one weekend that I hunt a year, I'm just excited that I'm able to shoot a deer that is bounding, full run in grass that is taller than me! |

Fellas, I loosed an arrow the first week of the season at a spike 20yds out. After hearing the distinctive thwack of hitting the animal and him bounding off, I waited patiently in the stand for 30 minutes. Got down to look for sign and found nothing. Went to get the dog and a bigger damm flashlight soonafter. The dog found the arrow. It had gone through the deer as it had hair jammed in the broadhead and the arrow shaft had small pieces of meat on it, a few on the fletchings too. But no blood. We looked for hours that night on our hands and knees re-creating the scene and straining our eyes for a tuft of hair or drop of blood. Nada nothing. So where could the arrow have passed through the animal without leaving any blood visible? Here's the biggest horned critter we've seen evidence of. Seeing this thread yesterday has got me jonesing to hit the woods for the last 3 days of the season. NUTS We've also got one of these...

its COLD in the tree stand now.... I have about a week left to tag one more doe and I'm gonna freeze trying. We have a little bit of snow on the ground and with the moon almost full, I bet I would be able to plink one at midnight. I can't believe how well you can see at night with the snow on the ground. Its amazing... gotta get some more back straps!! |

today was the last day.... it was gonna be a cold day in the stand... I couldn't take my usual route It was a nice walk.... how do they get in and out of the woods without knocking snow off the trees?? Look closely and you can see the tracks...
