I'd charge a $1.00 fee that had to be payable by credit card to:

1) Ascertain I was dealing with a REAL person, not a bot.

2) Get you to hit the "I agree to hold you harmless for the info and what I do with it" part of the deal.

The last thing I'd do, is talk to Dave Gess early in the process. I have hidden in my files the 3-page "Gess Doctrine" on how to make Buell Parts and Accessories FIT Buell owners. It was a gifted piece of work then made all the more interesting by the passage of time.

I have hidden away:

One (1) Notebook - CSR & OWNER GROUP Component
Three (3) Pages of the Gess Doctrine - PARTS & ACCESSORIES Component

That could change the way Buell deals with it's owners.

Unlikely, perhaps. But dreaming is what got us where we are today.

Court
I am also sitting on the good old "9 ways to sell a Buell"

the sad part is, as illustrated by Court's post, is that none of this is rocket science, new, untried, or anything but doctrine in many industries . . . . HD's insistance on believing that the seven viels of mystery make it more attractive to (potential) customers is really getting old (gotten old?) . . . . .

I think the dollar (or nickle) charge to do away w/bots, or register like here, is a good one, as is the idea of forcing readers to wade through a dsiclaimer page . . . . and then, release the tool and instruction on TPS setting, and I'll buy a fuelie buell

Considering the cost of getting all the parts and service manuals on line and keeping them current would as well as the number of folks that would access them, I would be inclined to believe charging for a subscription would be the way to go.

Not to mention, can you imagine the traffic that would be on there. Yikes, would have to be one helluva computer system to handle all the searches.

Not being a computer guy, I wonder what the cost would be to accomplish this and what cost (if any) would be passed on to us. Interesting. Just might make buying the manuals a better deal.

Then again there is always the possiblity of putting the manuals on a CD. Naaa...to hard to drag the computer from the garage to the office to the bedroom to the bathroom (read: Library).

I don't know whether or not that's a poke at me Court but I'll respond seeing as you kindly sent that US pulley my way.

I tried like hell to get those coffee mugs you asked for but no matter how many calls I made, and it was lots, I drew a blank. I was grateful - still am, and for the S1 posters too. One day something interesting will come your way - I like giving too - and I've not forgotten either.

Ok lets try another item i have been thinking about as of late, it seems(read seems) that some parts for tube framers are being discontinued, my guess is due to the fact that they cost more to store than is generated by selling them, if this is the case and Buell no longer wants to carry a particular item, is it in there best interest to possiable allow an outside company to sell said item under some sort of guild line(such as using the OEM) what this will do is allow Tube frame bikes to be riden with out the fear of loosing something or crashing, and not being able to get a part, it sounds like a tuff sell, i agree, but would it not benifit Buell to allow an outside contractor, to pick up on non profitable parts that Buell has been rumored to discard, allow the tube frame comunity to continue to thrive, in one way shape or form, or is this idea just way to out there, or an off shoot of this talk, would Buel allow the OEM to sell a discontinued item, if they didnt want another middle man??
what do you think, and yes i really want a set of narrow lids for my S3, but this was talked about, with freinds who thought it was a viable question/request as long as profit was NOT the main intention
lets hear it

Not sure if this is in the right place or not, but I wanted to compliment Rene at Buell CS for actually returning my call.

I had a question about the $500 cash incentive and had left a message with a dealer and Customer Service on Friday (day after Thanksgiving). Someone from the dealership called me back Friday and I found out what I needed to know, but Rene called me this afternoon. I really wasn't expecting to hear back from them...a pleasant surprise!

How about a complaint about an 80% failure rate on a money back guarantee warranty program? Eh? Who are the "right" folks who should hear about that one?

But nice surprises are nice. 3rd party difussion is not.

How about a genuine complaint about the 95% (or higher ...... just guessing) poor dealership's that exist throughout the country. I haven't noticed my theoretical percentage change since I've been involved with Buells.

To stay in business a corporation has to move product, and to move product they have to:
1. Acquire new customers.
2. Retain existing customers.
3. Recapture former customers.

Warranty issues primarily affects #2 and #3 and occaisionally #1, the dealership factor affects #1, #2, and #3.

A company can continue with just #1 until they run out of new customers.
A company can continue with just #2 as long as the population of #2 survives and stays in their demographic market niche.
A company can recover with #3 or a new company can start by gaining the #3 group as a new #1 group.

I have never seen an accurate breakdown of the Harley/Buell customer base broken down into the above three categories. They simply proclaim gross sales and units moved. I think I'll revisit the Annual Report and background data when it's released in the next month or three (or whenever it gets released for public consumption).

#3...Recapture former customers... That would be me. Can't see it happening though. The HD dealers are Buells worst enemy. (and the customers)

O.K. Buell is about to recapture a past X1 owner.I have ordered a XB12S in Black, delivery early 2004.It is my birthday late January and what better excuse do I need to have a Buell sharing a garage beside a Road King and a Ducatti Monster. Now for the factory question. Will a fuel blend of unleaded and 10% ethanol damage any components that it comes in contact with?I run high octane unleaded in the Road King and am thinking of doing the same with the Buell. But wishing to support the local sugarcane growers and use an ethanol blend instead.

Hi

I picked up a new XB12s 2 weeks ago.

I noticed a wierd thing tonight. They appear to be small vertical (following the flow of the pipe) deep scratches. They have only appeared in the last 24 hours. I have never had to wipe the pipes down when I have been cleaning it because they were never dirty (the S100 spray washes it all off), so I can't have scratched them.

I am quite confident they were not there when I bought the bike, and looking at photos I have taken since buying the bike would also back that up.

The bike has never left my sight, so I can't see how anyone could have scratched them.

Could it be a fault in the metal caused by the heat / expansion?

Anyone else experienced this or heard of this happening?

It looks quite serious!

Chris

I'd like to get others' views on the stock rubber on the XB's and make a recommendation to Buell to put decent quality rubber on these bikes from the factory.

In hot weather, they stick fairly well but are far from perfect and in any other weather, dry or not, they are absolute garbage. I've never in my life seen a tire perform so poorly in cold weather and on the wet - just today I almost found myself on the ground on two separate occasions as the front end decided to wash out in a slow (under 25) corner - absolutely the worst rubber I have ever rode on. Now as we pay top dollar for the bikes, I would expect top value on the rubber or at least the option to put some decent rubber on them from the get go. I'd be fine with a 100$ upgrade cost at the worst with a trade in on the stock but no dealer is willing to do this - just >250$ for new rubber and have a nice day. I guess I will change them anyway however I find the "cheapness" for such an important part of the bike distasteful.

Since i recived no response to my last question, how about, in some legal way, let people know what parts are going obsolete, so that if there is a need, maybe we can order them before, we actually need them, and in turn maybe make our tube frame bike last a little longer

Can someone answer this. Why does Harley/Buell not build and sell anything for amateur dirttrack racing that can beat the CRF 450 Honda, KTM, Yamaha. The Blast is a boat anchor unless you get the factory involved. You would think that they would want to be King top to bottom. Please help the amateurs. Build it they will come. PLEASE !!!
