The inner guard (for lack of a bettre term) of my rear pulley has fallen off and is rattling around the hub of my back wheel. Does this just "pop" back on? What would cause this? Thanx. |

huh! are you talking about that metal ring that is pressed onto the pulley? Or one of those dress up covers that have a Pegasus Logo on it? Pics? |

Are you referring to a 3" long stone guard that's roughly an "L" in cross section? Mine fell off several times, and amazingly never left the bike. It now resides in my spares box. |

The metal ring... from the side facing the wheel. (Message edited by shadowracerx1 on October 16, 2007) |

Without the inner ring keeping in track, the belt now runs almost half off the inside of the pulley. I take it I should keep it off the road until this is fixed. MAn I was looking forward to riding today... |

Mine fell off last year. Had to hacksaw it off. Haven't had any problems. It got knocked loose on a tire change. I didn't notice it until it started rattling around on a ride. (Message edited by 5liter on October 17, 2007) |

I'm leaning toward doing just that... I just have a fear of my belt running itself off the pulley. |

yeah... I'll break out the expensive ruler and the wrenches when I get home. So might as well cut off the ring and replace the pulley when I check the bearings this winter. Besides that basically keep an eye out for a wandering belt. I keep my belt adjusted loose per general suggestions from this board. Would that be affecting it's wandering ways? |

Mine wanders about an eighth of an inch when I back it up. Make sure you're square in the swing arm. I've put about 12,000 miles on mine since it lost the inner ring. |

Mine has never popped off. Could it have taken a hit from a rock or something? I bet you could get away with JB welding it back on. I think It's just to keep it from bumping into the tire. The new Buell pulleys don't have an outside but they still have the inside guard. |

I get the feeling it popped off due to bad belt alignment. The belt apparently pushed it enough to pop it loose. |

yeah... I'll break out the expensive ruler and the wrenches when I get home. The factory limit of adjustment (MAX) is 1/64 in [ 0.0156 ] you needs a "guessing stick" ( Dial Caliper )for the task } |

and dial caliper is what I used. Had one handy from clearance checking. The belt tracks well now (unless I'm rolling backwards for some reason) Thanx for the help. I'll replace the pulley when I do my bearings. |
