I have a bone stock 08 XB12R with 2000 miles on it. Here's MY experience; Blip the throttle at idle and the motor will "stumble" just a bit, 1000-2900 RPM (which I am rarely at) The motor lugs, 3000 RPM to 3900 (Crusing), no issues the motor does just fine. 4000 RPM & Up (Spirited riding) is where the motor seems to want to be. **On a side note; My 98 S1W has a minuki carb (spelling) and a V&H exhaust and really likes to be between 3000-5000 RPM. |

Rode the suspect bike. "Surging" would not be my description- herky-jerky at a subdued level@2800-3400rpms was my observation. (This was at nite and not under the best conditions for sorting it out.) Subjective interpretation should continue with more test ride experiences. Something aint right. That said- what a WHOMPIN good bike! Debugging should always be such fun. My benchmark is an 05 XB9SX. The new 08 motors will stomp their predecessors. ???1125R/XB12X????shhiznit. Let's hope/contribute towards a fix. |

>1st gear/4000 rpm ... 2nd gear/5000 rpm ... steady throttle and surge and jerk. >over 6000 feet ... absolutely perfect now that there is verry interesting. sounds like a FI programming/learning issue to me (flash back to 99 FI pre-"G"), tho I suppose it could be a mechanical issue (usual suspects) causing it to be lean. What altitude is your parking lot? |

If it runs better at high elevations (less o2) then it sounds like a lean surge condition. I would definitely check intake seals. Failing that I'd look at the injection. Either programming or mechanical issues reducing fuel flow. |

One would think this problem would be resolved by now. The XB line has been around for six years - plenty of time to get it right or at least have an understanding of the problem. |

Gotta throw this in. Its new developement. First 45 degree night I owned the 08 Uly. The surge, rough run problem almost disappeared. Almost same feel as high altitude. High altitude cures it. 45 degrees almost makes it imperceptable. I doubt I can get a tech to find the problem in this temperature. Most damn amazing thing! Friend rode it last night and he offered there is a problem. When I rode it home (cold temp), I had trouble finding it. |

Maybe it's related to being 45 degrees out and when you're at the right altitude and the sun is in alignment with Uranus? |

I had this same issue, Louck. The dealer finally replaced the intake seals and the bike runs better now then it ever has, although not perfectly. I'm not sure smooth is possible with these motors but it's at least unnoticeable enough I can enjoy riding. |

It's worse than that. The common intake issue...that intake setup has been around since 1986! |

I think Harley has been using that intake setup since 1909. At least on their Twins. |

Yes, but those exact same gaskets and mounting geometry/hardware have been used since '86. I think they may work a bit better than the 1909 tech, one would hope. |
