Well, I just survived my first race.(+1 stress) Not only was it my first race, it was the first time I have ever been at Mid Ohio.(+2 stress) I got a call last night from the my friend who had just crashed and wouldn't be at the track to walk me thru the morning pre-race "stuff" (+3 stress) Riders meeting.... "We are only going to have one practice session this morning so we can be off the track by 5" (+4 stress) Was all this a sign "DON'T RACE" If it was, I didn't pay attention. I had to pull the front tire, get it replaced, re-install, re-safety wire, go to Tech, See Mark run, see Mark sweat, see Mark almost FREAK OUT..... Practice.... almost went off the track on my first go round..... calm down!! ZAP ZOOOM ZOOY ZING.... Damn!! these guys are passing my like I'm parked! Survived that 15 minutes..... Race time... They grid me on the poll position for the novice riders! WTF!! That placement didn't last long... more zapping and zooming... "them bikes sound like skeeters when they go by ya that fast don't they?" Long story shortened. I had a good time. I didn't crash or cause anyone else to crash and I left the track with a HUGE smile on my face. It was great! After the race was over and we were on our cool down lap some of the corner workers that I had met that morning came running out giving me a big thumbs up and clapping. (That was way cool!) I feel good about myself (even if I did come in dead last) and I can't wait til next time! |

As long as you had fun. First or last doesn't matter. Speed comes with time. If it never comes, it's still a blast. Bring the race bike to the next Homecoming. There's always room in our pits for another Buell racer! |

I wanted to be there, I really did! Sorry I didn't make it. Maybe I could be part of your pit crew next time. Any thoughts on Mid-Ohio compared to Nelson Ledges? |

Sounds like a very successful first race. You kept the dirty side down and didn't cause anyone else to crash. Good Job! |

Body position!! Its the biggest thing I need to work on. That, and I need to start exercising. I'm so sore today, I wish I could've stayed home in bed. |

Congratulations Mark! I know how that first lap on the pole in your first race feels. That is exactly what happened to me many years ago racing dirt track cars. It doesn't seem to matter to them when you tell them "no....really.....I have never done this before". Good luck and enjoy! |

Mid Ohio is a great track! It has been resurfaced in the past couple of years and it is smooth as silk. But let me tell ya, after running Nelson Ledges which is almost flat. Its like a roller coaster ride. It has a couple of off camber turns, negative G's, and that last turn at the end of Thunder Valley will sneak up on you QUICK! Next race= Oct 6th @ Nelson Ledges, 30 min Endurance Race |
