Well, our new little rider is out of a bike at the moment. Just before I got regimped, I replaced his broken throttle cable. I found I had no idea how to do what I was doing, now my lousy mechanical work has gotten me in trouble. The cable splits and goes to the carb, and to something else, I don't know what is it!! But I got it together, and it worked for a couple of days, then something came loose, and now I can't work on it. May have a friend come and give it a shot, but thought I'd do some research and see if I could find how to adjust the cable when we get it on. Does anyone know of a site that has info, maybe pictures? Like a PW badweb, or something. I can't seem to find one. I'll get a manual, I hope, but until then....

Besides mechanical problems, his biggest fear is his Mom taking it away from him

www.yamahaoftroy.com has all the parts you may need online microfiche. might even be able to tell what and how its connected. Uhhh, rotzaruck!

One cable goes to the carb slide the other goes to whats called a starter plunger. See if a clip or spring has come loose.

Ahhh! It has a name, perhaps this can lead to understanding. The more I think about it, I'm thinking it might be the housing where the cable splits off into two. I was wondering why I didn't have one with the parts we ordered, but found it in the bottom of the bag, AFTER I got the silly thing altogether and running, but not just right. Maybe it'll just be something popped loose. Never thought just replacing the cable could be complicated, but I'm easily confused. When I get somebody with good legs over(he may know something about it anyway), we'll find out. I just ran out of time, can't even "touch down" with one leg now, so just trying to be patient and learn a bit.

HOLD IT--just found the diagrams you mentioned, one cable half goes to the other side--to a rotating thing on the back of the trans housing??The starter plunger cable comes from somewhere else. Can't find it in the diagrams, but the ones there will sure help. Thanks Wile, I think I better order a book.

Ed is the mill a 2 stroke?
if so could the other cable be an oil injection pump cable?

Hmm, could be I guess, it's some kind of spring loaded rotating thingamabob that rotates when you twist the throttle, then springs back. If it was the oil injection, it would be classified as a critical adjustment. It was smoking a bit more that normal afterwards hmmm. A friend is coming tomorrow, who is a mechanically minded sort, between the two of us, maybe we can figure it out, if I shut up and leave him alone. I'll be the one with one leg propped on a milk crate offering encouragement.
I was working on the thing in the dark, with a flashlight in my mouth, a hemostat(sp?) in one hand and needle nose pliers in the other and a long screwdriver wedging the rotating mystery part held in place with my chin, to get the cable knot in it's slot. This procedure was a direct result of trying to save labor, by not taking enough stuff apart to get to what I was working on and working myself to death saving all that effort. You know. If I had gotten to where I could actually see the thing, I might have figured out what it was. With my deadline coming up, I was just thrilled to get it going. If we can get it running, and it's still smoking, it'll probably be okay until I get a manual and a new plug.

It's an oil injection cable. You definitly need that to keep that motor alive. I have a BW80 which is pretty much the same setup. I removed the oil injection on mine and just mix the gas now.

Thanks for confirming that, logic was headed that way. Fuel and oil would have to be proportioned somehow. Now, we'll just have to figure out how to adjust.
Think we're gonna need to step up to an 80, or something before too long. He's looking pretty big on that 50.
And of course an 80 would haul me and Beck a little better too!!

No problem Ed. I got the 80 for the low low price of free with a bad piston and cylinder. Found a new cylinder and had it bored 40 over to haul me alittle better;). With a new jet and some intake/exhaust work it does pretty good. Then i bought this.........
