Steve: That is AWESOME work! Same to you Dave, I am envious.
I belong to a few online critique groups and so many get into the whole "post prcessing" rut. That is all I hear is you need to do this and that in Photoshop. Perhaps I do... I am just getting started. I am taking some courses at a local camera store and reading everything I can get my hands on. As far as film goes, I still shoot with a 1970's vintage Minolta and have been more than happy with the results. And I agree, Steve, I am shooting something every day if I can. For now, it has been airplanes, flowers, wildlife, and Sammie of course. Be sure to drop me aline when youare headed up to Vegas. I am going to be here on and off all summer..and maybe fall. I'd love to drop by and say howdy.
Sanchez... those are great shots!

David,

Outstanding work!

Rick, hang in there. Just like anything else it takes work and dedication. There are many on-line resources for tutoring in Photoshop. Here's something out of this world! <grin>

A couple of super places YOU should look into are:

Thanks SD. I had already been lurking around Luminous Landscape. Great site! I also read through the material at The Strobist when I can. Great astro shots by the way!

Some pics I have from Vegas. All hand-held at ISO 200, with shutter speeds varying from 1/20 to 1/8 sec.
Using my Canon 20D.

If you are interested at all in night photography, you must check out the Nocturnes

http://www.thenocturnes.com

Amazing art, workshops, guests.

Sunny has done one of their field workshops in Bodie. They get special permission and a ranger to escort them at night.

Fun stuff!

Incredible stuff. Interesting, being here in NYC, that some of the most fascinating night shots come from the most desolate and the most dense of places.

Fabulous work and Nick . . . that ISO200 hand held stuff is impressive.

Thanks, I was happy with the result.

I love that long exposure stuff, I'm gonna have to start trying some of those since I just finally got a tripod, now I need a cable release.

I also wish I knew more about Photoshop, I'm a super noob with it.

Here are some more examples ads I created in Photoshop. Gives an what you can do with it now. These are pretty much entirely done in psd.

The bikes were photographed in the workshop or on the tack and then clear cut with paths and then pasted into layers.

Other elements created using the painting and airbrush tools.

Up to 70 layers in the Shoei file.

Layers are your friend. ; )

Slaughter,
Just get the D80 already. Chacones over at Samy's can hook you up. I got my D80 last December thru him and have been enjoying it ever since. However, be wary, "lens lust" will set in. I have given into it several times already.

Just to show a few.

Lots more here...

Timbo - I'm committed to the Nikon hardware because I'm already invested HEAVILY in Nikon glass

(liked the Vincent Thomas shot by the way)

Yeah - Chaconas and I have talked about that D80 but now I've got a wadded up racebike to get back on its wheels... priorities. Whatchya gonna do?

I used the Nikon 12-24mm at Homecoming and it is an incredible lens. I have the benefit of having my office smack dab in the center of the "photo capital of the world" so I can simply walk in, rent about any lens I want, use it and bring it back the following day, week. I keep wanting to buy but with the rental so easy and my taste in lens running towards the pricey stuff. . I use the money for guitars and rent lens.

: )

But, I have found that saving money on lens is like saving money on condoms.

Dave,

I've boarded boats in that area that Timbo took the shot. It's the Vincent Thomas bridge connecting Terminal Island to San Pedro in the Los Angeles port area.

An ex-co-worker holds the "unofficial" record for lowest BASE jump off that bridge - a buddy held his pilot chute when he leapt over the edge to the water less than 200 feet below.

If I recall correctly, Timbo's wife works right near there.

Slaughter,
Bummer about the race bike. I know priorities all too well.

Dave,
Thanks, and Slaughter is correct, it's the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the Port of Los Angeles.

Court,
I have the Tokina version of the 12-24, awesome lens. I love it.

My Adobe CS2 showed up looking all official, with the manual and all....except the disc was pirated and had a bogus serial number. The seller is in Canada and the drop shipper is Florida. I'm going after them with all the help I can find. I am waiting on PayPal to refund the money now that he is off of eBay.

Put IMG tags in square brackets at either end of the address.

Nice.

Reminded me of this one.

We were riding north up the Western Edge of the Coromandel Peninsula. Following a clearing sea mist.

The light got me in, so I stopped and snapped without even looking in the view finder.

When I got home and dl. Dolphins!

There is about 20 miles of that road just like that befor it goes inland - gonna do it again on the Uly next Summer.
