That cop or whatever he was, looks more concerned with traffic than with the rider. And as for the ass in the car, was he actually going to try to drag the rider? He was on his cell so fast, it makes me wonder if he was on it before the crash. | ||

I think that the cager was distracted (OTP) ran the light, and lost control after hitting the scooter, then hit the obstruction. It looked like another part of the world, different laws-customs etc, the rider looked like he was trying to get up and BTW no helmet. It was a sobering reminder I hope the rider survived and recovers from his injuries.} | ||

We participate in a dangerous sport. Traffic lights get run all the time for various reasons. The difference is that in our case, there is nothing to protect us from the impact but a helmet and a fortified suit. The driver won't get any worse a sentence than had they run the red light and hit a driver in another car. We can only work to minimize the risks, but we all understand the risks and accept them or quit riding. | ||

I wish that was the case. Sometimes you get lucky, very lucky. An acquaintance was hit recently by the owner of a large car dealership. No injury, but the bike was a mess. The next day they went to a HD dealer and the guy walked out with a new bike, an upgrade as well. Another situation, a very good friend starts the last of his rehab that his insurance will pay for today. Last fall while riding to work a teenager ran a stop sign and t-boned him. He is paralyzed from the chest down, and most likely in a chair forever. She was uninsured, and driving on a restricted license. She has been fined $150 and given some community service. He has about $200K in medical bills over his insurance and the prospects of getting any money ever from the girl doesn't look good according to his lawyer. If you don't have assets a judgment doesn't do much good. | ||

Plus often a "judgment" might come many months later. It took me over a year to have all my medical problems even noticed -- then two surgeries, and three neck epidurals. Then months in an arm cast. And months of therapy. Had I not been on Active Military duty I would have long lost my civilian job. SPEND THE EXTRA FEW BUCKS AND MAX OUT YOUR FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE. | ||

AMEN on the insurance. 100/300 for medical is imperative. if you only have 15/30, and you need a knee rebuilt, you are already AT LEAST 20 grand in the hole. my dad was rear ended on his road king 8 or 9 years ago. the other guy didn't have enough medical on his policy to cover a 50K knee surgery/replacement. the worst part...he was rearended by another motorcycle. Luckily my dad did have maxed out insurance. if not for his own insurance, they would have simply amputated his right leg ABOVE THE KNEE and sent him on his way. somethin' to think about. |
