Being my first Buell, I'm slightly concerned about the bike. I seems like there's a little more 'noise' coming from the engine than there was 300 miles ago (500 miles on 05XB12s). Logic would dictate that an air cooled engine will be a bit noisier and that it will loosen up a bit...

Anyone notice a difference in engine pitch during break in?

Yeah, mine made all sorts of frightening noises at first. I had never ridden a v-twin, so I thought there was something wrong with it at first. LOL! After it breaks in it should get a lot smoother and the random noises you're hearing should go away more or less. Mine fairly purrs now after 10,000 miles compared to when it was new. Just follow the break-in procedure and take good care of her. She won't let you down. It has been my experience so far that these engines are built like a tank.

Mine started a clatter about 1500 mile mark.
Its annoying since I can hear it over my race can.
I have 6k and its getting louder.

Yeah, there's some bikes with over 10K that sound like they're gonna blow at any moment, but look like they're barely broken in internally.

My hubby's bike is currently in the shop.
It had a chirping sound from day one, was taken back to the original dealer (NOT RMHD) twice and they said it just needed to be broken in. The other problem, though, was that the bike didn't run like a 1200 should. My SV650 out did the XB12R.

Well, the bike is apart now, did a cylinder leakage test and there was oil everywhere. Because of this, the rear cylinder piston was found to have too much clearance which was causing the rattling noise. Bottom line, it may need a new engine.

Please, don't beat me up on this one. Just an FYI.

Don't forget the primary chain is likely to loosen up significantly during the initial break-in, and that can definitely add some noise. I wouldn't worry about it until after they adjust the chain at the 1000 mile service. If your noise is still there then (and getting louder), then I'd be talking to the dealer.

What do you mean by pitch? The fuel pump makes a whining sound.

THAT is cool. Thumbs up to you and the dealer! I think you should let us know who the dealer is that treated you right. Good dealers should be acknowledged.

We're going to the dealer first thing Sat morning. Will be looking at either the TT or ULY. But no matter what, we're going home with a new bike. The BOLT is dead.

We'll let you know who the dealer is after everything is done. They want to make this right.

Go with the TT!

I can't hear any noises from the engine.

I used to drive a 75 VW Beetle. I can no longer hear sounds from air-cooled engines. ;)

Well, after about 9 hours at the dealer, came home w/the arctic white 2007 TT. The hubby is already in the garage doing some minor mods.

We'll be out tomorrow RIDING!!!

The dealer is in Frederick Colorado and they were great.
