I agree with you Teeps......I find it really ironic they used sheep.....That add agency needs fired.....

Call me stupid but isn't exactly opposite of what harley is supposed to stand for???????

I guess they could have used black lemmings marching off a cliff into the ocean.

I get the idea of the black sheep, BUT....

...then they all herded together again.

The muffled sound of the sheeps' "thundering" hoofbeats sounded kind of like a stock exhaust though! That commercial seems to be aimed at the weekend warrior crowd, which is probably Harley's key demographic.

Good for them. Still aint buying one.

Seems like when you get a large flock of black sheep the point has been missed. The black sheep was always the one that was different. Thousands of the same "different" sheep equals no longer different.

banjo music and some dolt in waiders would have made it "da bomb"

It made me remember every tasteless sheep joke that I had ever herd..........

the best part of all was some one got paid to make that

B-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-D

Dear Erik,
PLEASE DON'T LET THE MUTHA SHIP DO STUFF LIKE THAT WITH BUELL ADDS.

B-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-D

Note to self; if the commercials continue, replace all harley branded stuff,
so PPL wont think Im stranger than I am already

I ride a buell not heard sheep.....

the dinette set // grampa and the siding were classics...

point out about missing out on the FUN

It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen,

in my mind:
A big rough looking RUB motors up to me at a light with his gear and pith helmet goes to speak and..

B-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

message: "be a member of the flock ride a harley?" check the factory site for the other commercials, about as good as other co's adds, some of the stuff is stupid..
some is funny,

My favorite one was the Grandfather, sitting on the porch with his grand children, one of the tykes hands him his TOY Harley, Grandpa starts down the imaginary hi-way wind in his hair, mutters some thing about the aluminum siding he bought instead, then one of the older kids says to the bike tyke, Um we need to go now, Grandpa will be better soon ...

I could relate to Gramps.....

The worst one is the last one on the site list, with the guys trying to "make time" with the girls that they are dating, cut to HD with bra hanging from handle bars.
There are a lot of women riding,
meaning? they are easy? I doubt it...

Why not a commercial about a fat oldermiddleaged guy, getting his dream sled and all of the fun he's having traveling, and how all of his dinette buying buddys at work are - not,
that him and his wife went to so and so last weekend,(may be the each rode their own bikes)
while they planted flowers, painted etc.etc.etc

in the end its about the fun.

I know that there was a thread a while back soo lets not get too serious, In that I threw rocks at the sheep, heres and Idea that would appeal to a hard sell like me.

Scene opens 2 guys in parking lot getting out of their mini vans, guy three motors up on his nicely set up [ insert name ] HD
pops his bag open gets lunch closes and joins other 2, How was your weekend?[ asks
Guy1 ](Biker) Scene cuts to Biker, We went to [ name place ] "had great time", seen cuts to Couple in HD gear, On [ insert name ] having great time.
Biker asks You? Cut to Guy1, I ... [painteing, planting flowers, etc..]
( grumble )scene cuts to Guy1 disheveled,
Scene cuts to bike.

use friends riding, adventures, etc, and point up what the non-non HD rider is missing,

the bra on the handle bars is INFANTILE..

Tends to make me not want a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Quit trying to sell the "lifestyle"; sell the machines and let the "lifestyle" sell itself. Once corporate tries to co-opt the "lifestyle", it will surely be diminished as a selling point.

In June I downsized my small stable to one cycle. After 20 years of riding HD and 6 riding Buell, the Electra-Glide got sold.

I have 20 years of great memories on the HD and no regrets owning or selling it.

The Buell keeps me young.

Oh yeah, the commercial was stupid.

Yup, that was me...the amazing thing was, they blocked off "Main" street for about 7 hours of filming. Had teh local PD set up to reroute trafffic...all for about 3 seconds of film. It was the part where the sheep were coming up to the traffic light.

I didn't like it. A flock of black sheep is still a flock of sheep.

I would have had a wolf bolting at a flock of sheep and then cut to an HD lane-spliting past a bunch of cages. Same message, better visual.

Make no mistake, the "lifestyle" as we currently know it is nothing more than a very carefully crafted marketing campaign. Harley knows their target audience, and knows that the "be different, just like the rest of us" mentality is what really rakes in the cash. The sheep--both current and potential--will lap it up.

anyone else notice that there wasn't a ram in the bunch?

the ad, as most HD ads do, will reach the inteded demographic very well -- HD excels at this kinda thing, and has since the buyout

ditto what Road said -- HD IS selling motorcycles, like al lthe other manufactures, but the lifestyle gig is what sets em apart -- and makes them so successful, again, in their own market space -- this lifestyle selling ain't new for them, and there's not reason for them to change it, so far as I can see

It's like HD tries too hard to portray the image/lifestyle, and they fall flat on their face. I guess some people buy into it (not me) or they wouldn't be doing so well.

IIRC, HD makes more money selling 'lifestyle' t-shirts than Buell Motorcycles. I wouldn't expect them to change a profitable enterprise any time soon.

I don't expect them to change, and I wouldn't care if they did. It would be too little too late as far as I'm concerned. There are a lot of nice alternatives to the HDs available now and most of them outperform them in every way, even price. I can't see spending extra money just to have the name and or image. Not everyone thinks like me though.

My Buell is the closest thing to a Harley I'll ever own.

That was a little off topic, sorry.

I still don't like the commercial.

Maybe they're racist sheep?

Agreed, with the exception of resale value, aftermarket parts, and dealer network. I've ridden all over the country, and I don't think I've ever been more than 100 miles from a dealership.
