It's a sad day for me. James Doohan, the actor whose portrayal of the Enterprise's Chief Engineer, Montgomery Scott or "Scotty" endeared the hearts of many, died today of complications from Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and diabetes. The original Star Trek series was on the air from 1966 to 1969 and Doohan was in seven big screen Star Trek films, too.

When he was healthy he was on the road 50 weeks a year, and no sci-fi convention or college was too small for him to make an appearance. He was really loved by Trekies.

Those who enjoyed the roll he made immortal please say a prayer for Mr. Doohan's family. They must surely miss him dearly.

Lightspeed, James Doohan. And thank you.

As an engineering student in the 60's and a Star Trek fan I really related to his character.

40 plus years later I'm still looking for
"More power Scotty!"
"I'm givin' ya all she's got captain!"

Sad to see that, I'm sure he had something to do with a few of us becoming engineers.

Dang, I wonder if DaveS can get new dilithium crystals for my S3....

One of those in the chest - stopped by his silver cigarette case. Smoking "saved" his life...

Lost a finger. For the remainder of the war he served as a pilot observer, and earned the dubious distinction of being called the "craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Forces."

One of a kind.

Lived to 85 years, and left a 5-year-old son.

What a guy!
