Press Release: Please Forward To Media For Release On 7/20/2005
Date: 7/19/2005
Subject: Ride To Work Day 2005

Ride To Work Day 2005
Today, hundreds of thousands of motorcycles and scooters will descend on workplaces across the country as part of Ride to Work Day, a popular annual commuting event for riders. Ride to Work Day has grown to include hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists worldwide who believe that riding to work en mass on single, focused day will demonstrate the positive social, environmental and economic impact of motorcycles and scooters. The event is promoted by many motorcycling groups and organizations, led by Ride-To-Work, a non-profit advocacy effort.

Participation in the yearly demonstration is estimated to triple the number of riders on the road and save tens of thousands of gallons of gasoline. Riders say adding more motorcycles and scooters to the daily commute helps make urban parking easier and traffic flow better. “For many people, riding is a socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits,” stated Andy Goldfine, the organizer.

Ride to Work Day, a 501 c4 nonprofit organization, can be reached at:

Isn't it "ride to work day" everyday from March thru November?

Well, at least for us in the Midwest.

I'd ride to work EVERYDAY, but I have this problem with snow now and then... And yes Tramp, I know, you DO ride everyday, but heck, you're just, well... nutz!

Heck, my truck has been in the my garage for a month with the check engine light on. I keep meaning to take it in to get it fixed, but the XB stares me down and I just give in to it. Can anyone recommend some good snow tires? I have a feeling I'll want some.

I don't know if it's a case of idiocy or what, but I ride to work in cold, and I'll go to work in any weather as long as it's not raining on my way in. I can handle if it's raining on my way out of work, because I'll just get home and take a warm shower. But not on the way in. I ride to work in any weather, and I wouldn't dream of taking my truck unless I had to carry a lot of stuff. Even then, I use my tankbag, tailbag, and saddlebags to hold a lot of stuff...

So I don't think it's idiocy. I think it's enjoyment of riding, and dedication to riding.

I'll ride in almost any weather. I'd just as soon not be wet when I get to work, so if it's raining (well, heavy rain, anyway) I won't. The only thing that stops me in the winter is snow/ice. I still try to get out at least a few times when the roads are clear.

T-storms here this AM.
However, there is a Blue S2 parked downstairs!
Along with a brand new CBR..
We're the only ones riding to work today...
Bunch of pansies!

Thundershowers here too,

I took the car as I didn't feel like rain gear today.

So I'm a pansy - however I do ride in winter.

hey tramp,, you certainly must not live in my part of NY. in winter i drive, sorry dude but the buell is no fun in 4-6" of fresh powder that i usually have to drive threw each day. and below freezing temps for the 42 mile commute, bad mojo unless you like your boy hanging out with your tonsils,,

I did today as well, but I also rode yesterday, the day before, tomorrow, and the day after....
See a pattern?
Now, if I could just get the time to fix my Buell, I'd ride that!

when i got to work i was the only one who knew of "ride to work day". a scooter showed up oblivious to the whole thing. this thing needs more promoting with help from the government. IMHO.

I rode. Took in the most beautiful cloud formation all 17 mi. of it...

Need to be careful. All that gazing at the clouds could end me up over the top of some car!

I did, but I ride 2-3 days a week at least. Saves me on the 3 dollar toll a day(and it's going to 4 f-ing dollars in 2007). Gotta HATE the way CA runs its budget. Anyway, I rode, it was a beautiful day.

It wasn't easy but I did ride my S2T to work today. I had to jump start her with my battery charger due to a dead batt. Once started she ran like a champ all the way there. I was the only one there that rode. Just started the job Monday. Coming home was a little more difficult than getting there as I had no battery charger to jump start her. A litte old fashioned muscle and a small hill in the parking lot and she was once again alive and breathing. She took me all the way home with no problems. It was worth it. I'm still grinning as this was the first time I've riden in over a month. I get my first paycheck next Thurday, can you say new battery.
