Did the bike back off or does the 911 just have more top end? |

That 996T will hit at least 190 (on a long enough straight). I'm guessing that bike will do about 175, maybe more. But it sure looked like that Porsche went buy the bike a good 20-25 mph (?) faster. There's no question that a jet flying past you while you're doing 150+ will pucker your sphincter. Did you notice how relaxed the Porsche driver was? Could could have been sipping coffee in that thing. Those cars are smoooooooooooth. |

It didn't look like the guy on the bike even got into a tuck. |

Very interesting! I'm very curious to know if the guy on the bike just let it go when the jet pass by or if the 996 has really a better top speed??? But for the start, the R1 smoked the 996 and the jet |

I am sure the R1 rider was complaining about the sandblasting that he got when the jet passed him. |

I think I'll take the jet. Let's see the R1 outrun a laser guided missle from it. |

There's no way the porsche could pass the R1 that quickly. The R1 clearly let off the throttle. |

my friend has a 2005 R1 limited edition, and has already seen the mid 180's and said it had more left he just ran out of straightaway. |

>>>and has already seen the mid 180's and said it had more left Your friend is either pulling your leg or needs his speedo recalibrated. Put a GPS on the bike and check it against the speedo. The R1 is a spectacular bike. But most the >180 claims are "beer talk". Court |

The actual speeds tested by several magazines have stock 04/05 R1's in the 184 mph range. Granted stock speedos are optomistic but I personally have seen 181 mph with mine & that was still in 5th gear & the throttle wasnt pegged yet. BTW...I dont drink beer. |

I can't stand that crap either. One of the salesmen at the local Honda/Kawasaki/Ducatti/Suzuki dealerships drinks that stuff like 6-8 cans a day. ICK! |

During the IOMTT-2004 one of the commentators mentioned that he had witnessed an '04 R1 do 189 at a speed test of some sort. My guess is that it maybe had an aftermarket exhaust and they maybe removed the blinkers and license plate mount... And maybe a slight tailwind... The Proddy 1000 bikes were hitting 180 during the TT. They DO go . |

Dunno. He was the guy who got caught, and crashed in the "Sarahn Wrap Trap" in Waukesha a year or two ago. Rides a Ducatti 749. Nice guy, he's been on a couple of our Brag rides. Just drinks lots of Red Bull |

M1...the wild thing about the R1 is that after you hit 130 or so is when the speed really accelerates quickly. Its literally like having tunnel vision the way the speed jumps from 130 to 180. I cant even imagine the intense feelings of what it must be like to ride a Motogp bike. |

Not sure how close to a jet any of you have been, but I'm an aircraft mech in the air force... if I was on the R1, you can bet your sweet behind I would have let off alot! The noise, dust, and wind is way more than just intense, not even adding in doing 170mph or more. Just my 2cents though. |
