I've noticed, I think, not put any instruments on it {grin} that the pitch of music I listen to while riding sseems to rise when the speed increases (about 60 or so), and returns to normal when the speed drops (back to round town speeds, like 35ish) . . .. I'm sure it's a perceived shift (nonetheless noticable for all that), and that the signal coming from the ear buds is not changing . . . . I'm thinkin it may be related to an increase in wind noise, perhaps? or, am I the only one to have this particular halucination? (Message edited by bomber on June 16, 2005) |

frequency/adrenaline = higher pitch when going faster? interesting relationship. |

not sure I'm moving closer to the light at a high enough speed to cause a Doppler shift, but I can always keep tryin . . . . ;-} voices? no voices -- I get text messages through the USB port in my neck!! |

Well, if bomber is going fast enough be about to pass himself, wouldn't the wave compression part of the Dobbler effect explain the change in pitch?? Henrik |

John, are your helmet vents open?. If so maybe extra pressure is building up and pushing the ear buds in tighter. That always works for me in a noisy environment but I'm also half deaf. What did you say anyways? Huh? All kidding aside does the music make the ride more enjoyable in Chicago traffic? When I was there I put 110% attention to defensive riding. Out here I could probably use a TV while riding, BUT I DON'T. Bob |

H -- All who've ridden with me will happily testify to the fact that I am slow enough that I could pass myself if I was willing to put a knee down -- since Hailwood won whilst keeping his butt in the seat, I tend to ride that way too ;-} ineteresting idea, though - -always thought wave compression was that thing that bagger riders are doin lately, lifting a finger off the bar in greeting Bob -- I've noticed the affect both with vents opened and clsoed, but the lift onthe helmet at higher speeds could very well have the same affect -- I'll have to experiment with that -- when I ride in Chicago-style traffic, I turn off the music, shut down the GPS, arm the guns, and ride, grim faced, through the fray happily for me, I'm about half-way between the loop and Checkpoint Cheeseland, so the traffic is much less fierce in these parts . . . . the music is saved for very familar, darned near traffic free roads -- |
