Plotting out the route 'round the big water (well, big around here, anyways) . . . . . any must see/do stuff (specially in Michigan, with which I am much less familiar than Wisconsin)?

I'll try to get footage of me riding across the Big Bridge (me bein a little altitude averse and all -- should be good for a giggle or two)

What time frame are you looking at? Cause a bunch of us could meet up w/ ya, I have a cottage near 131 Just about 45 miles north of Traverse City.. do a lunch meet and ride

or just let ya chill out.

I like the ride around the Leelanau peninsula and Hwy 119 to Cross Village. The Leelanau is nice and scenic as is 119, it follows the lake very closely.

As Blackbelt said, lots of nice National Forest roads up that way.

Belt -- likely mid-July -- we spent a little time near the Sleeping BEar a couple of summers ago, and liked it alot --

119 was aces, Kinger -- thanks for reminding me of it, I'll make sure to include it on the route sheet

The Lake Michigan route mainly is US 2 and 35....through the UP, but if you have the time....try the south shore route of Lake Superior. Especially if you can go to the Keweenaw up to Copper Harbor. US 41 on the way up and 26 back. I just got back from there and instead of going through Marquette, I went 94 from Wetmore to K I Sawyer down 553 to Gwinn, 35 north to Palmer then the county road to National Mine, its a little rough but incredible! 26 south of Houghton is great also, very little traffic great views great roads. When at Copper Harbor, take the Brockway Mtn drive, its good for a picture or two.

If you all meet up, I want in also! I don't have anything planned for July as of yet.

Bomber -- Let me know if you are interested in a riding partner around the lake. I was planning to do a lap around Lake Michigan last year but never made it. How many days are you planning to do it in? Are you camping or getting a hotel room along the way?
Later.

I take a trip around the lake once every year, and there are some great roads. Going clockwise or counter? I highly recommend M-22 from Manistee to Empire, or all the way around Leelanau if you have time. Don't miss the Tunnel of Trees (119) from Harbor Springs to Cross Village. 2 is beautiful from St. Ignace to Naubinway, but don't be afraid to miss it to go up through Paradise to Whitefish point.

All -- thanks for your tips and suggestions -- my wife and I found some of the roads a you mention a couple of years ago when we took the old ferry cross the water and knocked around the area, but not nearly all of em -- nuthin like the knowledge of a local, sez me

Bert -- wilco, bud, I'll be sure to let ya know -- lookin like july sometime -- think 3-4 days at this point, but plans are only engraved in cold oatmeal at this time, and can alter for any one of a number of reasons ;-}

It'll be my wife on her Blast and me on the MaDuece -- overall, a smell the flowers kinda tour, as opposed to a forced march, ride til you're numb from the neck down -- we'll be finding reasonable priced lodging with a roof, hot running water, and coffee, thanks

drop me a line, and let's discuss, shall we?

Bomber,
When are you planning on taking this trip? Is it open to stragglers? (If I can actually get a day off)

JT

July-ish is the most definate time so far -- NOT the weekend of the 4th (high holy day at Grounder's!) -- will post details as they become available, after the notification of next of kin, film at 11!

if it wasn't open to stragglers, I couldn't go!

Let me know when you guys plan on doing this. I will see if I can get away. My family has property south of cadillac off of Rose Lake. It is a nice riding area.
