It's pretty easy to set correctly by the book... Setting it for your riding style is a bit more difficult . |

Yeah - and I'll see if I can find Higbee's chart (from Battle 2Win) for adjustments after you have the initial settings. It's a good way to tune the suspension. There are some good suspension guidelines on the net - kinda like, my bike does this, what changes should I make? When you're making suspension tuning adjustments after the initial settings, you need to ride the snot out of it over the same roads and then only make small changes in damping and preload - especially since it sounds like you're not too far off to begin with |

Found it. Uploaded to a hosting site so it's not gonna clog the pipes here. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-9/403336/SuspensionSettings.jpg I'd also advise measuring sag directly - rather than number of clicks in the rear and lines in the front. Those settings work really well for somebody close to a statistically "normal" weight. You might find that if you sit on the bike with all your gear - boots, leathers, helmet, fuel in tank - and have somebody help you measure sag at the rear, you might find that you will need a stiffer spring. Happened when we setup my buddy's XB12 suspension (he weighed about 220). He swore he followed the suggestions in the manual but we measured almost 40mm sag on the rear even though he was setting it up "by the book" All the manual does is get you in the ballpark. You should have about 6mm rear sag (OK spare me the obvious "sagging rear" comments)with the bike unloaded and with you/your gear in the seat, have about 30mm on the rear, 35 on the front. If you fint you have the preload all the way down and are still sagging a bit much, you do need stiffer springs. The bikes seem to be sprung a wee tad soft. |

I also just found a bunch of suspension "How-To articles that I copied and pasted into a word document I could email to you if you wanted. It's about 20 pages worth of articles and notes. This is good information on what adjustments are needed based on what you are feeling and finding while riding. The one thing you do need is a "course" somewhere without much traffic so you can set a repeatable pace (NOT FAST, just repeatable). Problem is on the streets/canyons, you can't push the suspension very hard without a bunch of obvious risk BUT if you do have a favorite section of "twisty bits" that you can run back and forth, you can make adjustments and do it again - of course being on a track is much better but that's not always possible. Sure - stay tuned. email on the way. One is Excel - Higbee's chart - the other is MS Word - about 22 pages lifted from various websites. Problem now is except the Traxxion ones, I'm not sure where I got all the info so not sure exactly where to go to get permission to post or publish. |
