I'm kind of curious how the gas issue for the 200 will be addressed. That 1/2 gal worked for sprint races but it's going to be a problem at the 200.

They were working on getting additional gas in the tail section.

Even with that, they will probably have to stop at least one more time than the 600's.

Unless they strap gasoline filled camelbacks on the riders.......

According to the article, sealing the intake hole gets them "about a quart" extra gas, or about a quarter of a gallon.

That would show who really has the cajones. Who wants to put this bag of gas in their aerohump.

They used to do it in '67 in F1... Granted... they lost half of the field that year. They introduced seat belts and banned fuel pods in '68 as I recall.

They can get the fuel volume with an auxiliary tank in the tail but cross-feed is going to be a big problem when re-filling. Running will be no biggie

Keep in mind, they're competing with folks who can re-fuel and change rubber on both ends in about 25 seconds (quick change not allowed this year). Quick fill is only about 12 seconds - but that's slamming through a 2-inch filler hole into 1 tank - not filling 2 tanks.

Don't think rules allow 2 fuel cans over the wall

I found the comment about the Pro Flow 3 stage oil pump interresting.
External oil lines to the heads and no more oil catch can problem.
Hmmmm.
Also the bit about the shorter stroke motor and a larger bore to get back to class displacement limits.
Sounds like there could be some interesting "trickle down" in the not to distant future.

All in all, a neat article.

Found this at the sportbike picture site. Interesting collection of hardware exposed, anyone recognize anything?

Brad,I have had the external oil lines from heads on Bonneville bike for several years.Does away with flapper in head, you plug return with 1/8 pipe plug and have a line from each head going to sump.Along with the XB covers and breathers works great.Just finished fitting new S-2 motor with them.

The external oil lines are an old 883 Sportster Roadracing/Dirt Track trick.

The picture above is of Tilley's Tripp Nobles testing the Firebolt at the 2001 Winter Tire Test at Daytona, before the bike was even available to the public (which turned out to be April 2002, I think?).

I picked mine up at the end of May '02, and I had pre-ordered it after Bike Week that year, so that sounds about right.
