I am trying to find a way for us buell enthusists to get together and help each other find the best places to purchase new bikes. I am currently in the chicago land area hoping to buy a 2004 lightning xb12s. If you know someone who is selling one, or a good shop to get one at, or even just some input about the model, please let me know. I currently have a blast and am looking to upgrade. I don't want to spend more than $9000 all together. Will check posts every few days. Thanks

LakeShore HD in Libertyville has/had a few '03 12R's for $8,999. Can't recall if they've got any 03 S's, but they have one or two CX's.

Rusty -- you are a hotbed of Buell activity (me too!) -- I'd check the local pages (storm fronts) and see what the folks have to say about their dealers -- I'm sure Daves would be willing to help you, as well, and Appleton ain't far at all!

as for the other, depending on the level/degree of oxidation, fine emery paper and wd-40 will help a great deal -- careful though!

In chicago i recomend Sam from IL harley in Brewyn(just out side the city) they have a Brag Club they sponsor, usually sponsor a trck day or so, have 04's on sale at very good prices, its close to the city, great service, and great parts
They actually keep the Buell's and Harley's seperate from each other, and carry most of what is offered by Buell as far as parts and cloths
PLUS there not on the Harley Web thing, they keep there buell parts for there Buell people, and always have a large stock of stock and aftermarket parts
Hard to beat in Chicago

Well Dave, that sounds like a great promotion, but i don't think that i'll be able to partake in that one due to the time line. But i am interested in the used xb12s you have. I will be coming in to some money in a couple of months, and I am considering trading in my one of a kind blast. I have vance and hines pipes, olive drab paint job, the cross roads drag bars, and have removed the bug screen and some of the other less necessary plastic to give it a really agressive little street fighter look. I'm gonna be real busy with the holiday but i'll probably be givin' you a call on monday. About how far from chicago is Appleton? Im' dyni' to upgrade, so let me know.

Everyone else thanks for the input i'll be sure to check out those dealerships hopefully to find the best deal.

why not look into disco dave's "planes, trains and automobuells" deal? maybe the terms could make it worthwhilke, and there's something to be said for a new machine with a warranty, and to have it signed by the designer in person- i think every buell bought through that promotion will have some degree of apprecaition later in their lives, with the erik buell aspect and the afctory tour....might be wise...

I will make it worth the drive!

RustyNuts,

Illinois Harley-Davidson/Buell sponsors our Chicago area BRAG chapter, and they are great people with lots of new/used bikes for sale (even metric, I bought a used SV650 there). Talk to SAM if you want to deal. Come join our next BRAG meeting 12/2/04 or Dealer Open House 4-5 December to check the place and bikes out. Good luck in your search for a new ride.

Tramp has got a good point about the new bike, that deal does sound pretty sweet, but if the funds are lacking, what can i do, however who knows if the money shows up, i may have to go for it.

Dave-
I will be giving you a call in the near future to talk about what we can do.

MikeJ thanks for the travel input, thats not an unreasonable distance at all, specialy if you have a new bike to ride home.

Fly-
i may check out that next brag meeting, and i will definitely check out that open house, i assume it's at the adrress listed above?

I can second Illinois HD/Buell. Sam is a good guy. Give them a look locally. However if you can wait Daves deal is hard to beat.

I agree, Sam is a good guy. I met him at the trackday at Blackhawk they put on a couple years ago.
If you are going to buy the bike in Chicago instead of Appleton check with Sam. Also go to Lakeshore and talk to Ponytail Kevin, another good guy in the buell business.
Of course, and you can tell them I said this, neither of them hold a candle to me!

i more than unnnerstan', rustytrombone, my point is that sometimes it's easier to make payments on a new machine than it is to cough up a big chunk o' cashish for a used one through a private party, and the warranty that Buell offers kicks , plus having dave a mere two and half hours away is nice. hell- just stop in and talk to him, if funds are lacking the payments might be the way to go.
i honestly have nothing to gain by laying this advice on you, rustytrombone.
When I stopped in to talk to dave he gave me a day-pass to 'miss kitty's total release body rub salon' in appleton.
...i mean, just to meet miss kitty!*

like the legal disclaimer, i should get one of those. The whole thing about getting that deal is that Dave said that the bike has to be paid for by dec 30. i've got a settlement commin up, and that's what i'm usin for the dough, guess i'll have to wait to see if it comes in on time. But Still sounds like a deffinite place to check out on my search.

Rusty,
It doesn't need to be paid for by then. We just set up a loan, you won't have any payments til Jan.Pay it off when the $$ comes thru.
Easy!
