I took my wife and son to the south coast of England last weekend - about 250 miles round trip. I took the Buell, they followed in our Saab. From the outset the weather was atrocious: torrential rain and strong winds. The traffic on the motorway around London was pretty heavy and there was a long section of roadworks with speed limited to 40mph. The roads south of London were wet and greasy, with occasional coverings of wet leaves. The last half mile of the outward run was on a mud and gravel track, so the Thunderbolt changed colour from black and gunmetal to oatmeal. At some points the rain got so heavy that water was running down the inside of my visor. Average speed was about 58mph; at no point could I really exploit the performance of the bike. Funny thing is, I loved every single second of it. I can't wait to do it again! |
