Does the spring o-ring that comes out of the old brass looking housing go into the new black shift shaft seal.

NOPE.Just be careful when you put the new seal on the shaft cause it can slice your new seal and you won't even know it until it starts to leak right away.What I do is put some tape around the shaft one time around then guide it on slowly.Then use a socket that will go around the shaft and give it a light tap to seat it on.....good to go.
