hi,everyone!hope the day has gone good for you.
ok,here's the question.i rode an xb9s with a race
kit.it was fast and fun i thought.the bike had
10,000miles on it,then i wanted to ride a xb12r
went to the dealer and rode a demo with no race kit.after riding it hard i was not impressed.
the xb9s felt way faster and i told the dealer
that.he said no way is 9s faster then the 12r
he told me once the bike breaks in it will feel
different.what do you all think?does the riding
position make a difference on how it feels on
acceleration?

Everyone else will jump on this and give you better answers than I can, but for a quick answer, I have read where there is a marked difference in the powerbands of the 9 and the 12. Something about the added hp being near the top end instead of in the lower rpms where you'd be using it off the line (and therefore feel like the bike is faster).

You know what, I personally don't care. Not that others don't, many do, and I'm not saying you shouldn't. I just want to enjoy the ride. Come on, I jumped from a Blast to a 12R, definitely a big difference in performance and power. Couldn't tell you about the difference in the 9 and 12, but there is another thread that talks about it, it's on here, and if I can find it I'll post the link here, but check around, might be in the knowledge or Quick Board. Forget the 9, go for the Big Un.

I've rideden both, but only about an hour's worth of seat time each . . .. for what it's worth

the 9 has it's power peak higher (if you can use that term {smile}), and felt a little "cammier," that is, a bit more of a rush when you got to the HP peak

the 12 is definately torquier, so it may not give the impression of speed . . . side by side, the 12 would likely pull the 9 on any given road, but rider skill would be more of a factor than motor on an interesting route, I'm thinkin

the xb9 has 11 percent lower primary gearing than the 12. the xb 12 has 22 percent more displacement than the 9. i have ridden both, they are both a bunch of fun. the 12 has moreballs down low, and pulls a little harder in the middle, and then you hit the rev limit real quick. the 12 is a little quicker, but the torque is real steady through the rpm range, so it doesnt feal real snappy... if that makes any sense. both great bikes, enjoy. later, dean

I own a 9R and have ridden the 12R at Firebird for a demo. Here's my impression. For those who have ridden the 9 first, you're used to the RPM range. When you hop on a 12, it seems like you run out of room, REAL FAST. Just my take.

I personally prefer the 9 because of this, but I live in the open desert. If I was an urbanite, or lived where there were tight twisties, I'd benefit from the 12.
