In that era we didn't have enough money to make signs. It's original artwork, but a dealer must have made it.

Just for reference it is made on 2 4x8 sheets of plywood.

The seller states ."This is one of the first signs comissioned by the Buell motorcycle co.."

The seller is asking $500 for it. Seems like a lot of $$ for 2 sheets of painted plywood.

Yes you can. Koz, anyone with a paintbrush could easily make the same sign. Its not like its something difficult to copy.

$500.00 Bucks,

What a rip!!!!!!

I agree with Dyna on that one - that would be a very easy one to copy if you wanted one to hang on the wall of your garage.

That sign is like two steps away from some of the greats like DaVinci, Picasso, and Bill Cosby's picture pages....

Big difference between something like an original Mobil Pegasus sign made of tin or one that lights up & a couple sheets of painted plywood.

>>>This is one of the first signs comissioned by the Buell motorcycle co

Just a note of clarification. The sign was NOT commissioned by Buell Motorcycle Co.

At that time the name was Buell MOTOR Co. It changed to Buell Motorcycle Co. in 1993.

Best wishes,
Court Canfield

FYI: Sign shops in my area sell one painted 4x8 1/2" MDO (wood) sign for $350. So that thing would be $700 new in 2004 dollars. A banner that size would be $300+.

Anon is correct. We did not make signs. We did send art to the dealers and they could maek themselves a sign. Nothing magical about that sign.
