Dateline: New York City Homeland Security officials have announced plans to elevate security in New York City, for the first time, to the RED LEVEL on January 26, 2004. Officials, when pressed for an answer, became glassy eyed, stuttered and walk away in tears. Hmmmmmm |

January 26 1788 Is Australia day The date of first fleet landing in the soon to be established town of Sydney Australia. Is this the reason Australia is mobilizing. This date is very important to Australians not because we care two hoots what happened but because we get a holiday. |

my personal preferance is HK-91 for homeland security, and .45 Colt officers model for out in public. that and try to keep my eyes open. |

as well it should be . . . . here's hoping NYC doesn't have any empty ex-religious buildings in which a visitor might hole-up and thumb his nose at the approaching uniformed minions of the federal gubmit . . . .last time that happened, there was hell to pay for quite some time (still ain't heard the end of it, in fact) good luck, NYS, and God Bless! |

Calm down, people, calm down...I come in peace! Just looking to combine a little pleasure with business, see some friends, have a little dinner, drink a little wine, maybe browse through a few dumpsters.... ...excuse me, officer, donde esta la zona rosa? r-t |

FYI, the Army installation where I work has went from FPCON Bravo Plus to FPCON Alpha yesterday. I haven't seen anything to indicate that a higher level of alert status is forthcoming. |

I've thought a long time before posting this so here goes...I think there are some things that should not be the subject of jokes and this subject is probably one of them... Thanks, Bob |

Tom...I have a niece who was in NYC working in the south tower with her audit teem that week...She had to run an errand before going to work that morning...She was finally able to get out of the city on a fire boat and stay with a sorority sister in NJ...The rest of her team was not as lucky...Her life hasn't been the same since and her parents are dealing with a terrible situation trying to help their adult child...But they still have their daughter...Others do not...So some people are going to be very sensitive regarding anything to do with terrorism...Especially if we have loved ones still in New York City... This years Iron Butt Rally asked some of the riders to visit several of our more recent airplane disaster sites including NYC and Mike Kneebone was very clear that while they were participating in what a lot would consider to be a "frivolous" activity, they were to treat each of these bonus locations with the utmost respect and behave accordingly...Mike even had IBA observers at these bonus locations to assure that would be the case and the result of an infraction would be immediate ejection from the rally... It's kind of like when we're at an airport there are certain things we could say and do or joke about ten or twenty years ago that are no longer appropriate... As I said I thought long before my above post and I think you can now understand why...And, knowing Court, if he had an inkling that someone would be hurt by his first post he never would have posted it...He's that kind of gentleman... This stuff is supposed to be fun!!! Respectfully, Bob |

I am truly sorry. Trust me, as the victim (June 17, 1970) of what stands to this day as one of the most horrofic random shootings in America (the one time I made the LA and NYC paper the same day) I would never do that. I am in counseling, to this day, for the effects it had on me. The post was simply a joke about Raod Thing coming to NYC and the fun we had last time. I have logged my hours at the WTC in tears and some recall the event that occured last 9-11. Beleive me, I'd never joke about that. |

I had a feeling it was something like that. For me, making jokes about things is part of the healing process when I have to deal with something but I realize that people need to heal in their own way. I very sincerely hope that the day it is OK to joke about it comes sooner rather than later because then I'll know that the healing is done. |

Court, thank you sir and I knew all along that you had not posted it with any unkind thoughts in mind and that is why I said nothing for so long...But the damn emails just kept showing up in my in box every so often, each a reminder of what Amy and her parents are dealing with... So on with the fun of this site and I trust you and Road Thing will have fun when he arrives on the 26th...That's what it's all about...We're having fun planning a road trip to Colorado this summer and are getting a lot of help from the guys and gals here... Thanks, Bob |
