First let me state I would put this in the Knowledge Vault area but you can't start a new thread anywhere

I'm pulling the engine from an S3 to be put into an S1W frame. My thinking is it would be easier to do this with removing the swingarm. I'd cradle the motor, unbolt the motor mounts from the frame, drop in the new frame and be done with it.

Does this sound reasonable???

If you are doin the whole shabang I would undo the Isolator bolts, front motor mount an all ti bars, undo wiring an oil lines an take the frame off the whole motor an swing arm assembley.
Reason being, it is a pain in the ass to tourqe down those swing arm mounting block bolts while it is in the frame.

The frame is lighter than the engine, block the heavy stuff and handle the lighter stuff.

And then see the "new" thread in the Knowledge Vault on Engine Swaps. The new topic button is there at the bottom of the archived threads and before the first retained thread. Hard to see, easy to miss, but it's there.

When doing the Isolators on the Run in Buffalo we strapped the motor/swingarm assembly to a couple pallets, let go the oil lines, removed battery, tank and other misc bits, let go all the heim joints and then pivoted the frame on the front engine mount just like the manual indicated. Had I let go of the front mount and the engine wiring I could have taken the frame off the bike.

When I replaced the first drive belt in my own garage I acquired a piece of 1/2 inch plate steel that measured approximately 2.5 feet by 3.5 feet, welded two eyehooks to it then placed it under the bikes engine, braced the motor between the steel and the bottom of engine and did the same thing.

After having to do both the isolators (couldn't have happened without the help of OZ666) and the belt its a piece of cake as long as you have something to strap the engine down to.

Fly me up for a weekend and I'll supply the labor so long as you have the tools and garage to do it.

One more word of advice is seeing your in there make sure you replace the isolators with new ones.

Its just that whole ounce of prevention thing!!!
