I know this should go in the knowledge vault, however I never seem to get the broad range of results in those topics that I am looking for. So please accept my early apology on this. Also, yes I have been asking some questions on this for a while now. I have finally decided to go through with it now!

I am trying to probe for information that I need to be aware of from those of you have done the steel to aluminum swingarm upgrade. Specially those of you who have done it too your S1's. Talking with Shazam last night he raised a few questions I did not previously consider. Maybe anyone with access to parts books may be able to check into these questions as well? (Great idea Tom!) I am getting ready to go through with doing this upgrade to my '97 S1 lightning.

1. will the rear brake caliper/rotor/hardware all still be compatible?

2. Is the "swingarm mounting block" that is stock on the '97 S1 compatible to the new style swingarm or does this need to be replaced as well?

3. What about the axle? I am guessing by looking at the tech tips on the ATC about the swingarm that it will need to be replaced by the new one for the new style.

4. Is there any other parts that aren't really mentioned much that need to be changed out to make this upgrade work?

5. Is there anything else I should know going into this?

Well... start at the swingarm block...it must be ground off a bit...a 5 min job...no need to buy a newer one...the brake stuff is the same...you will need to get the new shorter axle...and all axle adjuster hardware...2 bolts, 4 nuts, 2 adj, I think...oh and the shock eye bolts need to be changed...I know I am forgetting something ...but...I hope this helps a little!

Axle on old style is longer,but I just got a couple of large washers-1 for each side and it worked great.My stock rear brake set up worked no problem and shock eye was the same,the mounting bolt for the rear eye is different.

Your old fender won't work with the new swingarm.

Get the shorter axle.

Thanks fellas! Precisely what I was looking for!

Ditto on the axle will get the proper one regardless. The swing arm will be mounted to the latest recalled shock.

Ditto on the new hardware adjusters and so forth. Eisanman, do you got a close up pick on the adjuster hardware setup? I am looking for powdercoating possibility.

Ditto on the new style fender.

Did you end up replacing the brake line? Your setup looks good!

Has anybody had any experience grafting late model GSXR upside down forks to an M2 frame? I have a 99 M2 with the conventional front end. Been looking for an X1 front end with no luck. GSXR front ends are everywhere and was wondering if anyone had tried hanging GSXR trees on an M2 frame? The other option is to buy the X1 trees and bolt the GSXR forks in if they fit. From what I understand they are supposed to be the same Showa forks with different material internals. The GSXR forks are lighter and the 00-03 are even lighter than the earlier ones.

Let me know if anybody has any ideas or options.

I put the 0.95 springs in my conventionals with thicker oil which fixed the compression damping and the rebound damping (or lack of) is really bad now......
