Thanks to HD/Buell of Frederick for the Free Lunch/Hospitality Tent, to all the teams for doing what they do, and all the Buell race fans that we met. Steve took a bunch of pics but I'll post some here for now. |

Dave Estok, 2003 Thunderbike Champ, more about that later... This next section is called "close calls" there was some really close racing going on in the Turn 1 area of the track, where most of the passing and crashing occurs

This is where Bryan Bemisderfer won the race But this is where he lost it, on the Dyno. Pictured is Dave's Bike. Bryan's bike was "several" horsepower over the limit. Thunderbikes are allowed 3.5 pounds per horsepower, and he was below it, unfortunately, becaus he rode a heck of a race and made a great pass in turn 1.

What that picture can not accurately describe is how LUDICROUSLY LOUD the Buells were as they were run on the dyno. I think if there was a decibel limit the Buells would be in trouble! One last one, Eric Wood and Mike Ciccoto running together during the Sportbike race.

woohoo! I'd like to second that! I've got a number of shots of that 10 bike & rider, but can't match the one José got. BTW, congratulations Dave!

Dave and all that were at Summit, What was wrong with the orange and white XB (that won, but lost on the dyno)?! That thing was going around the carousel missing, sputtering and carrying on! I can't see how he even rode that thing, it was upseting the chassis something fierce. Anyone have any scoop? Lee |

Lee, (still on the X1?) from the RRW link above:
quote:Estok led the 15-lap Thunderbike race early, but Bemisderfer came from three seconds behind to catch Estok. The two riders looked very equal on their Buell Firebolt XB9Rs, but Bemisderfer was able to use his track knowledge and some crafty work through lapped traffic to cross the finish line first. However, Bemisderfer’s bike went several horsepower over on the dyno during post-race inspections, and he was disqualified. Estok was awarded the race win, which combined with Bemisderfer not scoring any points, clinched the Championship for Estok.
Initially I heard five over, but several is still over. Both the 98 and 981 sounded the same -- definitely on the edge. Steve(2)

Steve(2), Yes still on the X1. You took the picture in Herndon right? I think I saw you at the track. I was riding the Red Stripe through the pits/paddock after the Thunderbike race and you were (I think) near those bikes that were parked at the end of the first row. Still on you Silver S3 right? |

Lee, yes on both counts and now that you mention it, I did catch a glimpse of a third Red Stripe (other than Tom & Mike's) -- too bad it's got to go. Excellent race and weekend in all (though next year I'll have to use more sun screen).

Yeah, but if it goes it'll be for another Buell! If not, oh well, I still love it! |
