Yep, a very good rule to live by. And I don't recall ever seeing an anonymous post that revealed an such info. The anony posts are simply protect the posters who otherwise might not be able to participate in discussions here.

That sucks ... and it's precisely why I make it a point not to ask for information (not that they'd tell me). My passing curiousity is simply not worth someone's job and I'd feel awful if someone lost their job because they told me something they shouldn't.

Ditto Aaron's post. If I were fortunate enough to know people well enough to ask 'em stuff they shouldn't answer, I simply wouldn't. (WTF did I just say?)

Every once in a while we get visited by an anonyfairy who drops us a couple of gems. That's perfectly good enough for me.

From what they say they see things that 90% never make it to the public. To ask some one to tell me what they that can get them fired or sued for breaking a contract is not cool.

The new Buell will be a tube framed full size bike with a 1203cc motor and a cast aluminum piece tail/seat.

The new bike will be called the "X-1 Lightening".

As you were.

Just to add a little credence to the thread, I know and party with quite a few HD/BMC engineers and vendors and none of them talk shop. They will chat about their own bikes and things they have done, but nothing about what goes on inside.

Oh sure, I have tried to get some info from them about certain issues but I can honestly say, if you want to learn something, follow the BWB, X1 Files or some other cyberspace info center. Heck, my cousin is one of Buell's vendors and I neither know nor care what he makes for them. It just isn't kosher to ask anyone to risk their families security over such matters.

I respect that immensely as having been an employer, the last thing I wanted was my competition to know what I was thinking, much less doing, before I was ready to make the announcement myself.

Blake, FYI, this is the reason I stopped making comments and conjecture about what I would like to see HD/BMC make quite some time ago. It is that sensitive an issue locally and if a "Homie" makes even semi accurate guesses, it could cause a witch hunt and that ain't fair.

So I guess I shouldn't comment about the XB9-N model where the "N" stands for nostalgia and the package will include a kick starter and a manually operated ignition retarder cable linked to a magneto. The only battery on the thing will be a small solar cell on the top of the dash plate licensed from the Timex Corp from their automotive line of DayGlo displays.

Guess I'd better add the here. ;)

I've seen a BMC truck/trailer on the 405 fwy with a surprisingly blatant picture painted on the side of a new style bike you'd never guess BMC would build. Pretty cool lookin', minimalist streetfighter style... if you're really into that sorta thing.

Snapped a quick shot & I'll I scan it when I get home.

every job I've ever had included the signing of a non-disclosure agreement . . . . I always figured that I should expect that my friend's (which includes a couple of mother-ship deckhands) have signed similar things . . . . so I don't ask, either, like many have written here .. . . ..

if I were to ask (I won't), and they were silly enough to tell me, well, ya signed on the dotted line, took the queen's shilling, and shame on you for droppin a dime on your employer . . . . .

the gems dropped here, and elsewhere, have generally helped me reach the entirely wrong conclusion, which is, of course, my doing (insert smiley face of your choice here)

Ditto all. Dave Gess and I go to extreme measures to NOT ask. We've always been told what we need to know WHEN we need to know it. Ditto other former employees who were working on yet to be released product.

For the funniest story in the books of "Buell Security Breeches", do not forget to remind me, next time we meet, to tell the tale of the midnight e-mail, whilst holed-up-in-Iowa about 1 AM, instructing me to call Juneau PRIOR to setting foot in the factory the next morning.

It was a mistake, but a CLASSIC.

Jermey Ricker still makes me laugh.

Court, has that right. Neither he nor I ever signed any sort of confidentiality agreements but there are stories that won't get told for a good many years yet.

I also don't want to know, I mean I do want to know but if I go out of my way to not know than people can't accuse my friends of leaking me any info.

On the rare occasions when i might see something I shouldn't, like bike being unloaded at a phot shoot or some such I keep my mouth shut out of respect Erik and all my friends a Buell and Harley.

However if any of you guys who have no ties to the factory see or hear anything juicy by all means serve it up!

I admire those companies who have the balls to let their prototypes grace the floor. 'If you like it that much we'll build it' kind of attitude. Shame the Blue Marlin didn't make it but bold of Aprillia to have a go.

I don't agree with all the cloak and dagger bull. Remember when Buell launched the Firebolt and how they kept the world waiting whilst they allegedly ironed out some problems. At such a late stage and the bike being in full production mode save for the ironing why keep it such a secret for what turned out to be such a long time almost if not to the point of bad publicity.

Claudio Castiglioni showed us the MV Brutale in 1999. For various reasons it hasn't made production yet but they'll sell everyone they make before the first batch hit production but at least we know what to expect and thus if we want one or not, hence WORTH WAITING FOR.

Each to their own I guess but this kind of brand 'snobbery' puts me off.

"Prototypes on the Floor." Interesting observation, I believe the auto industry would call that a "Concept Car" and it is a valuable tool for getting market response before investing in a radical new design.

Fisher's concept articles would be a good example of this. However, I see no need for a solid company such as HD/BMC to do so as their market input is extremely clear. Their biggest challenge is to decide what path will produce the greatest return on investment given their available resources.

I talked to a guy yesterday in the produce section of the grocery store who said that Buell is sticking with air cooled v-twins period.

He also recommended I try the watermelon when they start to come in because they are going to be just DANDY.

My X1 is better than anything they are going to come out with for the simple reason that they will not abandon the tiny platform so soon. They can only add a bigger power plant at this point. That still makes the new breed too small. And dorky lookin.

I guess we'll all see soon enough.
