Dave: Perhaps this years B.R.A.G. event should be titled "Buell's revenge" after last year. The word was that "6 Firebolts were crashed" and the "Every Firebolt at the event was crashed". Anybody know if either of these statements is accurate? I suspect the TRUTH is much less dramatic than the accounts of the event. I think I'd prefer the t-shirt to the helicopter ride, so publicized last year. I'm getting old. Court (veteran of the 1st Annual B.R.A.G. event where 9 of the 60 Buells got gobbled) |

I'm not so sure about that Dave From what my buddy said four Bolts crashed (including my buddy) during the regional BRAG event and one fell over in the parking lot while at idle. |

Wasn't 2001 Slay The Dragon I? I was preempted from going after 9-11. As a follow up to last years regional meeting at the Dragon. What became of the Firebolt rider that was air lifted? I fear the worse. My Dad mentioned there was a Firebolt at Tilley's for sale that may have been the bike involved with the sign. DAve |

Court, There were 2 serious Bolt drops, one was serious to the rider, and several minor ones at the Deal's Gap event last year. One of the guys I road with had done a low side that dinged the gas tank, I mean frame. Dave still rode at least a couple 1000 miles after. I know at least one bolt (fasteddie) made it out unscratched, I think there was at least one more. Lots of rain and wet leaves on the roads. I don't know if that had anything to do with the crashes, but it sure scared the pee out of me. Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure none of the crashes took place on the Dragon. Matt |

Court, my recollection is that there were eight firebolts at the dragon and six went home scuffed to some degree or another...the "firebolt fiasco" as I like to call it.....flatlanders in the hills syndrome, and probably weather as the roads were damp most of the time, I suspect were large contributors. I think it was also early enough after their release that alot of those people hadn't acquired the "feel of the bike" that comes with saddle time(there was at least one exception to that). keep in mind that the dragon and surrounding roads probably claimed upwards of thirty bikes that weekend....as it probably does every weekend. |

Matt, Dave went down just past the overlook heading into TN, other than the crash outside of Fontana, I'm not sure where the mishaps took place. there was an instance where I could easily have been a rock ornament, on the way back to DGMR at night in the rain, from Fontana. I found a PILE of leaves on my line in a hard right hander that slid the front and back two feet out before I recovered (I think racerboy found the same pile...as you all know, we are always on the same line..hahaha). so it could have been worse. Fasteddie may have had a similar encounter. Everyone was having a lot of fun on the bikes that weekend, exhuberance is contagious (and sometimes costly) |

I think the (SLAB) St Louis storm front guys had a few updates on that rider. Last I heard it was a serious spinal cord injury, transferred to long term care, medical outlook good but likely permanent parapelegic. I was praying for the guy along with a lot of others no doubt. He was not a regular on this board, but he was a friend of a friend of a few regulars. I am curious to know how he is doing as well. |

Tripper, You should have seen him draggin his knee in the circle in the Fontana parking lot, I don't think he was going faster than 30mph! And then try keeping up with him and XB9. Sam, I'm amazed I couldn't think of your bike as surviving unscathed. Wasn't there a bolt that the guy totalled, but didn't get hurt? I seem to remember him in a pickup truck. That ride in the rain did suck. Are you guys still doing the Ozark ride? Matt |

Matt I think we are going to do a bunch of Ozark rides this season. As to an (un)- official meet in the middle type thing?????? We talked about it briefly, but I don't think anyone coordinates well enough around here to actually organize anything more than a dinner date. I hope this can happen. I will bring it up on thurs (at the dinner date thingie) and see if as a group we can put something together... I'll be in touch |
