I thought it was entertaining. The day before he, when pressed, ,admits he has not read and does not know "the specific provisions" of the single most expensive piece of legislation in the history of the United States of America. Then he goes on television (last night was his 4th prime time press conference, Bush has 4 in 8 years) to "explain" it. Reporters served up silly softball questions that only served to perpetuate his lecture. It's interesting. . this morning . . to watch the various news channels asking folks "do you understand the health care program after the President explained it last night?" So far, not a single person can cite a single provision of the health care program. I've written my own Congressmen and others. I have invited mine to attend a neighborhood coffee (this plan is going nowhere before the August recess) to answer questions. I intend to read the bill, all 1,000 pages, and know the thing inside and out and I want to play "question and answer" with him. He's spouting off about how good it is and hasn't read it. We need to do much better for leaders. Barack Obama is a very great embarrassment. By the way . . folks, in another thread, were going on about China. Guess who will be financing the bulk of any program? That's right the very same Chinese who hold nearly all the USA debt. Ever dreamed the USA would be owned by China? Guess what's popping up all over New York City? |

I'm not crazy about it but reform is needed.. Politics aside We all end up paying more because of people not being able to afford health insurance.. The president mentioned a foot amputation last night.. My friend a diabetic was unable to afford private health care a result that stopped him from going to a wound care specialist for a blisters on his foot.. Blisters got worse, turned into a bone infection and got gangrenous. He passed out one night and was rushed to the hospital.. Amputated his leg and spent nearly a month in the hospital. All said and done he was unable to pay over 100,000 dollars in medical bills and went bankrupt... Who eats in the end we all do... Between my wife and I where looking at over 15,000 dollars in premiums, some paid us mostly by our employers.. We all have paying for the rest and it's only going to getting worse.. anyways Time to ride the bike to work

Viva Viagra! THAT'S not covered under many plans too! Our shop was told we could save money on premiums if we didn't take out the "Viagra rider". I'm serious, that's what they called it. This was a few years ago, and a different carrier, but still. Things are expensive. But if people think it will somehow be LESS costly when the gubment is in charge, I think they're either naive, crazy, or not paying attention to how other gubment agencies are run. Reform is needed - I agree with that. But this is NOT change *I* believe in. This is like going to Phila via Australia. (Well, that only makes sense if you're in America.) I just really hope someone actually READS this one. ->ChelleM |

My TV was safe, but I did want to injure the channel broadcasters. I have cable. I could watch the President's swaggerin' diatribe on SIX different channels last night. What are these guys thinking? Are they honestly competing for ratings? Are they expecting he'll secretly reveal something special on *their* broadcast? Do they think I'll shop all the channels until I find the one that delivers the President with the best quality? |

Our health system isn't perfect, but it's significantly better than anything the current administration and congress can cook up. Odd that NONE of the cost containment measures include tort reform. Odd that NONE of the cost containment measures include streamlining the FDA. Odd that NONE of the cost containment measures include ANY emphasis on deportation of illegal aliens. Of the 47M "uninsured", the REAL number of those chronically uninsured is between 5M and 9M. The remainder are those who are between the ages of 18 and 35 who ELECT not to carry coverage and illegal aliens. Are we really going to nationalize an industry that represent 20-25% of our economy for 5M-9M people? 55% of the population is currently AGAINST the O-Care program. |

Let's cut through the crap . . . to date, they have done NOTHING they have promised. Wall Street wised up, folks are getting $350,000 raises instead of bonues. The folks throwing the lavish parties are federal agencies on your dime. Perhaps the worst part of last night was when Obama called the Cambridge MA Police Department "stupid" and then went on to say "I don't have any facts". Then as if dumb weren't enough he went for dumber when he said:
quote:Obama, during a prime-time news conference, said Wednesday he didn’t know what role race played in the incident but added that police in Cambridge, a city neighboring Boston, “acted stupidly” in arresting Gates even after he offered proof that he was in his own home. “I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry,” Obama said. “Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. And number three — what I think we know separate and apart from this incident — is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that’s just a fact.”
Cool . . not only does Mr. Harvard avoid the health care topic he manages to contradict himself in a single paragraph. I'm eager to meet with my Congressman. I've written him and told him I would simply, at a neighborhood coffee, after thoroughly reading the proposed bill, like to sit down with him and ask him 10 procedural questions. We really need to do a better job making politics a place that attracts leaders again rather than simply the left over of social programs. Apparently organizing a nation is a bit more challenging than a neighborhood. I kept thinking, as he spoke about costs in the health care industry about the raise his wife, working as a hospital community affairs coordinator. How many, do your research and look around, hospital community affairs folks make $316,000? How many Badwebbers make $316,000?
quote:She was the vice president of community affairs for a hospital in Chicago. She was making $121,900 in 2004. So that's a lot different than the $37,000 that, you know, people in Zanesville are making. About $121,900 in 2004. And then there was this weird coincidence. Her husband was elected senator of Illinois and her salary mysteriously jumped to $316,962 the very next year.
The fun part of this is that my wife and I, her being a minority and me in the energy business, are making out like a bandit. I keep thinking I should write this guy a letter and thank him. Kinda cool being contacted and having someone offer to take $100,000 of the principle off you mortgage. |

The folks throwing the lavish parties are federal agencies on your dime. My first question when reading/watching those articles was not, "why did they need to throw a $700k party?", but rather, "Why on earth does there need to be 675 'senior' executives in SSA???" |

2.5% of annual gross income penalty for anyone not enrolled in an approved heath care system, and this penalty goes to funding the O-care system. Most of the people without heath care can not afford it. Do you think this penalty is going to help them????? |

>>>"Why on earth does there need to be 675 'senior' executives in SSA???" And . . . did they ALL get "death threats"? The fact they they were all suffering "work related stress as a result of frequent death threats" was the stated official reason for the party. If I had a company and 675 of my "senior management" had received death threats, I'd be doing a little "performance assessment". On behalf of the feds . . . "thanks for the good time". |

If I had a company and 675 of my "senior management" had received death threats, I'd be doing a little "performance assessment". My thoughts exactly. If you're getting death threats as a government employee, in my experience, 9 times out of ten, you probably deserve it. Or we can just reward it. Whatever, we're not paying for it. |

just wanted to see what his approval rating was and caught this. looks like he's a bigger baffoon than jimmy carter and his daughter amy. i'm glad michelle has never been more proud to be and american cause i have never been more ashamed. Peter Roff Obama’s Sinking Approval Ratings Are Even Worse Than They Look July 21, 2009 06:02 PM ET | Peter Roff | Permanent Link | Print By Peter Roff, Thomas Jefferson Street blog Having come into office with an ambitious agenda to remake America, Barack Obama is discovering that time is not his friend. According to the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, Obama's approval rating has dropped by nine points, down to 55 percent from where it was when he first entered the White House six months ago. On its own, a nine-point drop over that period of time does not seem like a cause for much concern, especially when a majority of the country continues to approve of the job he is doing. But there are plenty of warning signs within the data, on its own and measured against other presidencies. A 55 percent approval rating at this point in time puts him in 10th place over all among presidents who have served since Gallup began tracking presidential approval and disapproval in the 1940s. He is less popular than both Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush were at the same period—and they both lost their bids for a second term. On the other hand, as Gallup points out in its analysis of the data, Obama is more popular now than two-term President Bill Clinton was six months into his administration. But Clinton was a minority president; even though he won the White House twice it was never with a majority of the popular vote. So he didn't have as far to fall as Obama does. The decline in Obama's job approval number is matched, overmatched really, by a significant increase in the number of people who disapprove of the job he is doing as president. That number is up 16 points—to 41 percent—from the first time the survey was taken during the Obama presidency. The six-month mark, as USA Today ' s Susan Page explains in her story on the poll, is not "a particularly good indicator of how a president will ultimately fare." But it does say a lot about the prospects for success where his legislative agenda is concerned. From almost the start, Obama the person has polled better than the Obama agenda has. Which means his personal popularity is a central factor in his success, or lack thereof, especially on Capitol Hill. This is probably the reason he has chosen to take on a first-term Republican United States senator in the debate over healthcare. In political terms, it is somewhat remarkable that Obama has lowered himself to address comments by South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, who suggested that the healthcare legislation, if it could be defeated, would be Obama's "Waterloo." By responding to DeMint, Obama made him his political equal, at least for the time being. It also allowed him to personalize the debate over healthcare, even as the president protested that "It's not about me." If healthcare is about Obama, as opposed to being about healthcare, it stands a slightly better chance of passing in the House and the Senate. The decline in Obama's approval numbers is being driven by a lack of confidence in the way he is handling four key domestic issues: the economy, taxes, the aforementioned healthcare, and the federal budget deficit. And, says Gallup, "The biggest drop has been on his handling of the economy, down 12 points since February; his disapproval is up 19 points." More to the point, the people who are flipping are conservative and moderate Democrats, whose support is down 18 percent. Which is probably what emboldened the so-called blue dog Democrats in the House to resist the push to get healthcare done quickly once everyone figured out how much the Obama-backed tri-committee proposal would cost and what it would do to the deficit. The lower Obama's numbers go the harder its going to be to keep moderate Democrats worried about being re-elected in 2010 on the reservation. And the harder it will be for Obama to remake America. * Check out our political cartoons. |

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090721/ap_on_re_us/us _harvard_scholar_disorderly (For some of the facts the president was missing last night.) "Supporters say Gates was immediately considered a suspect because officers were summoned by a female caller who said she saw "two black males with backpacks on the porch," one of whom was "wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry," according to a police report. When the officers arrived, Gates was already inside and on the phone with the real estate company that manages the property. He had come in through the back door and shut off the alarm, he said. Police said Gates was arrested after he yelled at an officer, accused him of racial bias and refused to calm down after the officer demanded that Gates show him identification to prove he lived in the home. Gates' lawyer, fellow Harvard scholar Charles Ogletree, said his client showed his driver's license and Harvard ID — both with his photos — and repeatedly asked for the name and badge number of the officer, who refused. He followed the officer onto the front porch as he left his house and was arrested there. Gates told The Root that the police handcuffed him behind his back but moved the cuffs to the front when he told them he walked with a cane. He noted that at least one of the officers in the group outside his house was black." So, it seems that two people (black or otherwise) were attempting to force a door open at a house. A concerned neighbor called the cops. By the time they got there, the door was open and the man was inside. For whatever reason, instead of being glad the cops had come to protect his house, the homeowner becomes beligerrent and refuses to show ID. Finally after spouting off about racism, he produces ID, but not before more officers are called (at least one of them is also black). He follows the officers OUT of his home to yell at them some more, and finally the officers get fed up and arrest him. Sounds like about equal blame of bad judegement all around to me. I'm not black, but if I broke into my own home (which I have had to do before) and the cops came because they thought someone was breaking in, I would THANK them for their help, show them ID to prove I was OK, let them write up their little report, and offer them coffee or something. Whatever. I'm sick of race relations. ->ChelleM |
