Does it have three cylinders and no cam shafts? From the early-mid seventies?

how many exhaust-ports/carbs/intakes does it have?

take apart the carburator and see how big the main-jet is, that will give you a good idea of the cc rating

Post or PM me a picture of it...both sides.(the left side cover shape will give clues as the Mark.. Eg: Mk1, Mk2, etc)
and the engine size will be on the cylinder on one side or the other. Depends on year.

If it's a 4 cyl, it will fall into one of three general categories...KZ900/1000/1100.
Kz650/700/750 and seperately, KZ550 which is a 4/5 scale version of a KZ650 engine with no interchangable parts.

The 1000/1100 engines come in two types...early model KZ engines use a conventional timing chain and roller guides..this is the strongest setup...later models including all 1100's are known as J model...they use a Hyvo cam chain and slipper guides and are more prone to timing chain failure.

Some parts are interchangable between the two versions with some modification...the J trans is much beefier and stronger for example.

The best 1000 style is the 83/84 GPZ1100 and the KZ100 Mk2...with stronger cases, and stronger crankshaft and improved gear strenght...

Feel free to pm me with questions if you like.....Harry

Can't tell from the pics but SOMEWHERE there should be a displacement stamped on it. Doubt it's a 250... but you never know.

Those motors are everywhere. You can probably pick up a running engine for less than you'd put into getting this one running.

Oil filters are pointed down on EX250 engines, and the 250 engines aren't that wide. I'm with Slaughter in believing that came from an EX500.

Definitely Ninja 500. Good little engine. About 50+HP at the crank. That'll make a mean go-kart
