Just curious as to how many Rider's Edge Instructors we have here? Been doing it 7 years.Taught about 250 classes myself. My part time job turned into my full time job.

This is my third year with Rider's Edge. Quite a few more years with private sites, standard MSF curriculum, prior to moving into RE.

Are all of you guys going to the next CIW, I know its gonna be in Milwaukee next year and I know its gonna be big, being the 10th year for Rider's Edge. Now if the Buell Homecomming is in the same time frame that would be FABULOUS!

Nine years MSF, started with the RSS, now BRC and ERC.

Four years Riders Edge. Don't know how many classes or students, work two to three classes a month from March to November.

Love it, but it takes my riding away on weekends!

Yeah, I get to do RE on the weekends, and all week BRC'S, MSRC's And ERC's. Along with a few safety stand downs and seminars. Working a bunch of Marines is great. And yes RE CIW should be great in 2010 . My wife is PM and an Instructor for two local dealers, so we will be there. Me and 1 other instructor are going to IRONBUTT to Milwaukee.

Kathleen,
Mike (Shred) just passed his Total Control Instructor's class a couple of months ago.
He'll be teaching through Total Rider Tech, Leon Winfrey, and Dave Ruocco got him started, and he'll be teaching here in the Atlanta Metro area.
Small world!

As far as I know Leon is in Milwaukee, Dave as well. Total Rider Tech is everywhere.
I'm not sure where or when they met, but Leon has been here a few times, Mike stored his now Ninja & Ranger over the winter.
He's everywhere!
Has anyone heard how Dave is doing after his accident?

Dave R from Rider Tech had a crash? Same Dave from Total Control and Private track time?
I met Leon back in 2002 and see him at the RE CIWs and saw him last April during the Total Control instructor class.
I know Mike he was in my instructor class he is a super nice guy and rode a really cool Hawk race bike in class. There were 3 other Bad webber there 2 of them are from Florida Brian and Diane, I knew Diane from the 2006 AMA womens conference in Athens, Georgia. It is a small world. K

Wes, I see Jeff at least once a year. He is my area's regional Lead He and Tami G were my chief instructors back in 2001. Here is tid-bit for you. You know Jannette P.? She, Deb R., and I became MSF instructors in the same IP in 1998. Jannette is from Baltimore. Deb and I along with Denise, who has passed away some years ago, became the first all female team to teach RE for HD : ) Ask Jeff and Tami they will verify this for you. K

K, I think I know all the regional leads, or have at least met them at one time or another. I went to CIW in Tampa, Kansas City and Memphis. If it wasn't for a conversation with our former HD store owner, I wouldn't have the great full-time gig I have now, or my great part-time gig with RE, where I work for or with my wife.

Barker, find a dealer that does Rider's Edge and get them to sponsor you. Now all it takes is 4 days. When I went to RE for it, it was 8 days.

Is Rider's Edge similar to MSF in where a valid learner's permit is a pre-req? (It's an odd req if the course is held off public roads-maybe it's an insurance thing)

I have a 15.5yo grandbaby needing MSF basic, but in NC mc permits are issued after 6 mo of car permit issuance. I have let her "ride" in front 2x, but fear of death, and unwisdom of teaching the kid bad habits makes me reluctant to let her go solo (off public roads) on my bike!

FWIW I am MSF-B graduate (twice - once in 1987 on a FXSTC, and again in 2006 on a Nighthawk 250 after 13y mostly caged) MSF-A a month later in the cold rain 10-06 on a stock Ninja 250. Thanks for reminding me I need another A-course, with the current 250 setup. Maybe I won't crash this time?

I am interested in becoming a MSF instructor at some point. (not for pay, but more for karma points) What are the steps involved?

Thanks

Don

XJwoody, the first thing I would do is search your local MVA or DMV web site under services for MC SAFETY, if they have a link to classes and training centers most likely they will have a page about becoming a MSF instructor. If they don't next best thing to do is to locate a training center and stop by and ask an instructor when they are teaching. Or go to a HD dealer that is Rider's Edge and they will show you the way if they have instructor openings. My heart brought me to the program not my wallet when I became an MSF instructor. I had no idea how much I was going to make when I came into the program. In Maryland we test for the M endorsement at the end of the class. The difference between RE and a regular MSF is RE is longer, 25 hour class, state or college run is about 17 hours. The bikes are different, harley uses the Buell Blasts. they have more activities, HD related, in RE. We give you Road books and you have some internal learning or reflective learning during the whole class by journaling. The road book has a lot of neat resources in it. We use the same range cards and the students have the same work books. The MSF has developed some other classes like in traffic training similar to the UK Police Pursuit training. Best thing for your granddaughter is to find her a woman riding mentor. 3 other places for you to visit for her and you
Womenridersnow.com
Women on Wheels for a local chapter
and the AMA has an excellent page on its web-site under the link "the Life" look for New rider, tons of information there.

MSF, Riders Edge and Sidecar/Trike (S/TEP) instructor since last year.

I am able to teach between 1 and 3 classes a week since 2 of my 3 curriculums are 2 day formats.

I love working with the Buells, but the three wheeled rigs, particularly the sidecars and the Spyders, are tons of fun also!! BeLinda.
