So I just sold my Clubman bars and I'm wondering what to do with the money I have in paypal.
I'm thinking I want to donate it, preferably to an animal shelter. (No PETA, or PETA-like nut-jobs)
I'm actually leaning towards Dogtown due to their stance on pit bulls and fighting dogs.
My childhood dog was a pitbull and I hate how they are often abused, exploited, feared, and euthanize rather than rehabilitated.
The show they did on the Vick dogs had me tearing up. Yes, I'm a big wussy.

Also, I'd like to raise more money so I'm also thinking of having an online Garage Sale. I've started rounding up anything of decent value; knives, zippos, books, motorcycle parts, ect, that I'm not using to put up for sale with the proceeds going to charity. There will be some Buell items up for grabs: BRAG and HOG pins, a 25th anniversary patch, a Buell Camel Pack, and any misc Buell parts I have in the utility room. I know how some of you feel about selling "freebies" like the camel pack, but this is all going to charity, I'll even be loosing money on the smaller items since I'll cover shipping up to $5, maybe more.

I'm still scrounging for stuff around the house and getting items from friends but I hope to start posting up items for sell by early next week.

Also if anyone has suggestions on the charity let me know. I have to decide before I sell anything because I want everyone to know exactly where the proceeds are going.

My vote is Dogtown. If you need anything to add to your sale I have some misc. Buell stuff I would donate to your sale. I would ship to you if you want it. PM me for list if you think this is something you want to do. Great idea and good on ya for being a "Big wussy"!!!

I say your local animal shelter/APL would be the best. We donate our goods to their annual garage sales, we save all our recyclables for them, and I do whatever I can for poker runs that benefit the APL.

I'm currently fostering a 2 month old Chihuahua thats adorable. He's on his third home... anyone interested?

There are also some pretty decent charities that benefit people - without paying for all the mahogany and Cadillacs "needed" by the executives in United Way.

Unfortunately, I'd have to recommend against donating to the ASPCA. My girlfriend always used to cry (which I thought was funny at first) when the ASPCA commercial with Sarah McLachlan would come on and show the abused/homeless animals in their cages. She'd even get really upset if she heard that "Eyes of an Angel" song that plays during the commercial. Anyway, to make her feel better, I donated money to the ASPCA in her name. Mistake.

In the six months or so since the commercial, I've probably gotten over 100 mailings asking for money for other organizations like the Humane Society and PETA. The PETA ones are especially lovely because I get to see the pictures of dead livestock they so kindly include with each request.

What really pisses me off is that I'm sure that my $25 donation has done nothing but pay for the 4 or 5 pieces of animal-related junk mail I get every week. My donation didn't help animals at all; it went straight into the mailing budget. It was completely wasted. Maybe there's a way to verify how the money you donate is being spent, but I never bothered to check. It annoys me just to think about it now.

Spiderman, I never even heard of a rabbit rescue shelter. But I guess once they've been domesticated they might not make it in the wild.

I've donated to the local animal rescue, but they're also a possibility.

As far as human charities, some is going to go to a shelter for battered women. A friend told me about one in GA that burned down and is in need.

I'm leaning towards a 50/50 split between the women's shelter and animal rescue.

The money is going to go directly to shelters not to any big organizations.

for xmas, we made donations in peoples names instead of gifts. so for the wifes brother and his wife we made one to paws for patriots. so in a way, it helps two charities out.

Nothing against any of the above charities but if you are looking for a human oriented one consider
http://www.waterforpeople.org/site/PageServer
They work w/ volunteers & local engineers deliver clean water to people in unlikely places.
In this world the water kills more people than the bullets ever will & most of the women spend most of their lives fetching water.
