Years ago one of our parts guys took a special order from a customer and forgot to get his name so he wrote a description of the guy on the parts slip. Well a few days later the guy's girlfriend/wife comes in to pick it up. No name so the parts manager gets the customer's copy of the receipt (sans name or description) to find the order. Once he finds the part he says to her, "Is his name Guy Black?" Her response was something to the effect of "No, but he is a black man." Apparently the parts guy had written down "Black Guy" on the parts slip... Needless to say she wasn't very happy and after an apology from the dealer principal and his promise to discuss racial diversity with the employee she left. Thankfully we're now computerized. |

I myself was "that guy" last week. Lady ordered a guage set for hubbys HD. I called and let him know it was in (note not to call didnt show up on my printout) Little bit later he called and told me he wasnt supposed to know about it, gave wife's cell # and promised to act surprised. Oops! |

All the dealers need to take lessons from Al & American Sport Bike. They wouldn't give me a single CLUE couple of years ago when my wife ordered presents for me on my own card. Even pre-faced their emails with "Phil-DON'T READ THIS" in the Subject line. |

I think that skin color is a feature that is certainly acceptable. Your dealership caving to this womans wish that you discuss racial diversity. If anything she has now made how many non-blacks think that black women are bitches. I can't stand the pussification of this once great nation. |

When I worked at Summit Racing Equipment from Thanksgiving on we asked if it was a gift (esp if it was lady ordering). We noted the order in the system, got an alternate phone number to call if there was an issue and offered to send it to an alternate address. |

Hey Skinstains, you have some issues you need to discuss? I didn't get any of that from Beullinator's story. He didn't say she demanded "diversity awareness" discussions or any such thing. Hell, we don't even know if she was black (we do allow the races to mix nowadays, you know). The way I read it, the parts guy put his manager in an embarrassing situation. It would have been equally awkward if the parts guy had written "Big Tits" in place of the customer's name--perhaps technically accurate, but most folks would prefer that their proper name be used. It's simple courtesy. True, it probably didn't merit the staff going through racial sensitivity training. But it certainly did merit the parts guy getting a boot in his ass that afternoon for making his boss look like a jerk in front of a paying customer. |

It's simple courtesy. Yeah, I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it. Probably if it had been PART of the description it wouldn't have been so big a deal. Like, "Didn't get name - tall, thin, black man". At least give your manager a chance! ->chelleM |
