We can now supply billet aluminium anodised 'race' style filler caps to fit the XB and 1125 range. These don't need the key and simply twist off for ease and speed of use. Made by Ilmberger, they are top quality parts of course Available in a range of anodised colurs and costing GBP132 (US$198 approx) http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/319.html

How much are standard gas caps? $200 seems like an awful lot of money. Perhaps there's more to it than it looks? I find it a pain to HAVE to lock my tank each time. I prefer a cap like my X1 has that allows you to lock it or not. |

Looks Good! What does it look like on a bike.. Question: Wasn't the locking cap on todays motorcycles a result of caps coming off during accidents rather than theft? So does this type of cap have a internal safety of any sort.. Push and twist? |

Well thats the exchange rate for you. Kills any and all deals from the UK. I made some nice coin a few years ago selling some computer stuff to some "bloke" in England. |

Other than dodging customs taxes I didn't do anything illegal! Ah that reminds me, once shipped a blow dart gun to the UK, that didn't make it through customs |

Well thats the exchange rate for you. Kills any and all deals from the UK. The exchange rate is getting better for you in the US all the time recently, with the UK currency faring worse than either the US Dollar or the Euro (an almost impossible task but achieved by our government nonetheless!). 4 months ago the rate was around US$2=GBP1. Now it is around US$1.5=GBP1 which although not sounding much would save US$50 on a GBP200 purchase. The gas caps are expensive, but that is because they are top quality. |

Yeah. Those low quality gas caps really are a huge issue. I need high-quality gold-filled buddy pegs, too |

That is a very nice racing style gas cap Matt. As one who understands very well the cost and value of custom engineered moderate to low quantity machined production parts, I can vouch that the $198 is a very fair deal. Some folks might be spoiled by the made in China fare that has saturated the market. If they are among those who complain about "made in China" products, they might ought to rethink the issue. |

I guess my question is what Ilmberger item out there isn't toppest of top notch? That kind of quality has a price to match. I don't know that Rizoma draws this much consternation, and their stuff isn't nearly as nice as the Ilmberger stuff and just as expensive. If I've already spent thousands of dollars on a full Ilmberger set-up, this would be some of the last and most attractive sprinkles on top. Other replacement "gas caps" are just that, aren't nearly as detailed and machined and are only $70 less. Not that they aren't a good product as well, but the machine work vs. price ratio isn't even close to the same. Were we not looking at the exchange rate issues, I suspect they would be very close to the same price. Given that, I doubt that such a fit would be pitched about this product. |

I avoid Chinese products because I prefer, as a patriotic American, to support our ailing economy and buy American made products. Great to hear the new $200.00 trojan gas cap is made here, in America! I wholeheartedly support the purchase of this undoubtedly excellent, AMERICAN MADE product!

I am not trying to hijack a thread or to hurt anyones business, but, since the question was asked. Grandstand Designes (a sponsor here) makes caps that match the frame colors of your stock XB and look like they came on the bike. Or you can have them powdercoat or anodize them any color you want. I have two of them and will be buying two more as money permits. I am in no way associated with Grandstand Designes other than knowing Pete the owner from both of us being in the Buell community. |
